Vote down ballot in every election. Don't skip judges. Don't skip state legislators. Lives literally depend on it.
And so potentially life-saving care for transgender children is now illegal in Ohio — all because of a 281-vote margin in the biggest, bluest county in the state. That's less than eight hundredths of a percent.

It’s a problem if you don’t have kids. It’s a problem if you have kids. It’s a problem if you work. It’s a problem if you stay home. It’s always us. Hi. We are the problem. It’s us.

“Someone with a 1-hr car commute needs to earn 40% more to be as happy as someone with a short walk to work. On the other hand, if someone shifts from a long commute to a walk, their happiness increases as much as if they’d fallen in love.” #CityMakingMath

My senator, @jontester, could very easily be the closest senate race in the election and also the one that tips the senate. I'm feeling fired up, every bit helps. https://t.co/tYo2OIsSLk

It’s embarrassing to see OSU gush over Vance as a model for “Education for Citizenship.” A person who desires an authoritarian takeover of education and says “professors are the enemy” is hardly a model for our students.
A Statement from The Ohio State University: Senator JD Vance is an Ohio State alum, a native Ohioan and a dedicated public servant, exemplifying the university motto Education for Citizenship. Ohio State congratulates him on his selection to be the Republican vice presidential

If it’s not helpful to you, by all means ignore this, but I’m just saying… It really helps me to recenter myself to think “Oh right. The worst fucking people on the planet want me to feel like we’re doomed. Fuck those guys, actually.”

I’m not saying things are ok now (they are not!) or will be ok (they could easily get so much worse!). But they don’t HAVE to get worse. We’re more likely to prevent further backslide if we have the energy to fight back. This is a marathon designed to make us want to collapse.

How I published zero first-author papers during 2023: - All the data were already collected - 5 papers could have come from all that data - I read mostly manuscripts I am reviewing and student assignments - I write mostly emails

Another depressing account of apparent fraud in science, and the difficulty of pointing out the apparent fraud. My own experiences with rebuttals is that you make enemies and those enemies make it harder to get grants and papers published. Shouldn't be like that.
Aristotle was the first to notice honeybees dancing. In 1927 Karl von Frisch decoded the waggle. How it works was "explained" by MV Srinivasan AM FRS in the 1990s. Except @NeuroLuebbert found his papers are junk. A 🧵 about her discovery & our report: https://t.co/K0rpDPnfop 1/

Because they (overwhelmingly) don’t have the skills, they cannot use AI *responsibly* because they don’t know what they’re missing. If student doesn’t read and write well, supplementing reading and writing with AI means we don’t know what they know. And they never learn it!

Students have not mastered the skills they need to the extent they need. School is where they learn and strengthen these skills. The use of AI assumes a level of awareness and knowledge that our students do not possess. If they possess these skills, what is our job?

@DavidZipper My local chamber of commerce conducted a survey with stunning findings. Residents: 83% prefer walking or biking Business owners: 51% prefer driving No wonder it’s almost impossible to remove on-street parking in front of businesses @LakeviewRoscoe

Currently thinking about how research shows that business owners consistently overestimate the number of customers who arrive by car and underestimate the share who arrive by transit, biking, or walking. https://t.co/tJaStlZB8h

I think about this quote from @GeorgeMonbiot a lot: “The idea that some people may freely poison others is one of the most astonishing but least contested aspects of modern life.”

No, gain of function research did not cause COVID-19 The lab leak conspiracy theory somehow still persists. Don't fall for it; instead, learn about the overwhelming scientific evidence supporting a natural origin for SARS-CoV-2. https://t.co/Zvhj8zwpEW

SARS-CoV-2 first emerged in humans in 2019. Despite much noise generated by lab leak proponents, the evidence indicates a natural origin.

People asking why this is factually incorrect…I’m at a conference today so am pressed for time but I’ll quickly address each of the 5 “key points.” Bottom line: You can dress up unsupported horseshit in as much polished data viz as you want, but it still stinks.
Key points aren’t actually very key when they are factually incorrect. Good of the @nytopinion to help the mob sharpen their pitchforks for Fauci’s Select Subcommittee hearing by enshrining the lies that he will be attacked with as truth in the paper of record.
