UPDATE: after awarding the no-bid £600b contract to a newly formed company with assets of a mini-digger and 3 shovels, owned by a Tory donor, due to an unexpected budget shortfall the plan has been scaled back to a bi-weekly ferry service using a second-hand tugboat.

As Sunak confirms he's delaying EV target from 2030 to 2035 in line with the EU, worth re-upping this: the whole point of 2030 was to *beat the EU* in attracting investment.
Ditching the targets would cause 3 separate but related difficulties for post-Brexit Britain: 1. higher consumer costs (fewer 2nd hand, affordable EVs) 2. looking untrustworthy overseas 3. losing 1st-mover advantage/competitive edge in a free market (ahead of EU timetable).
