I'm running for Assembly because I want my kids to grow up in a New York where all of us have affordable housing, universal healthcare, and a livable climate.
🎥Watch and share our first campaign video!
I’m a tenant at risk of eviction.
By refusing to sign onto the
#GoodCause
bill,
@DidiBarrett106
is leaving me and thousands of other upstate tenants behind.
I marched with
@ForTheMany
and
@housing4allNY
at the State Capitol today to demand politicians take action NOW! 💥
Y'all!!!!!!!! WE MAXED OUT 🔥🧨❤️🔥 I'm so grateful for the support of my community.
People like me haven’t been able to run for office and have a fair chance. As a Black working class mom, I wasn't sure that I'd be able to run a competitive race against a multi-millionaire.
On good cause eviction, one source tells me concessions include:
- exemption for rents 200% of fair market rent
- 30 yr exemption for new construction
- owner-occupied buildings of 8 units or less, and those landlords with a 10 unit portfolio exempt
- opt-in for municipalities
I'm a working-class tenant who is getting priced out of my hometown of Hudson, New York.
The Hudson Valley and upstate NY need
#GoodCause
protections. Any bill with opt-ins or carveouts will leave hundreds of thousands of tenants like me behind.
I've worked as a home health aide. It was hard work, and didn't pay enough, but I truly loved working with my clients.
We need NY state to invest in workers and patients, not private insurance companies.
#CareNotProfits
#FairPay4HomeCare
💖 NYers have championed
#FairPay4HomeCare
tirelessly. Yet, the small raises we won aren’t making it to homecare. Instead, it's lining the pockets of private insurance companies. Let's spread love, not profits. Take a stand for

My name is Claire Cousin. I'm a third-generation Hudson resident, a mom of three kids, a co-founder of

I'm running for Assembly because the Hudson Valley deserves better.
🚨 NY is not on track to reach our climate goals 🚨
We need legislators in Albany that are committed to fully implementing the
#BuildPublicRenewables
Act to build renewable energy projects as fast as possible while creating green union jobs!
💡New York’s
#CleanEnergy
and emissions reduction goals are among the most aggressive in the country. Yet, the state is far from achieving its 2030 goal with less than 30% of electricity generated from renewable energy assets.📑Access the report:
NEW: OP-ED in
@KingstonWire
on why it’s critical that the legislature pass STATEWIDE
#GoodCause
Eviction protections and safeguard our existing rent stabilization laws.
My family needs Good Cause Eviction, and so do thousands of other upstate families.
We CRUSHED our goal and submitted 1901 signatures to the Board of Elections to get on the ballot!! 🔥
Will you help us keep up the momentum by making a donation so we can reach our $5000 fundraising goal by April 8?

There's no party like a petitioning party! 🎉 Had a great time knocking doors in Poughkeepsie on Sunday - now we gotta bring the momentum up to Hudson!

Last year, Upstate NY was left out of the minimum wage increase. We can’t allow the same thing happen for tenant protections.
I’m against edits to
#GoodCause
that would harm upstate (which has mostly small buildings).
If elected, I will be a champion for upstate in Albany.
As private equity companies buy up small buildings,
@GovKathyHochul
is trying to fully exempt them from
@GoodCause
.
This "Blackstone exemption" will destroy our neighborhoods and pad the pockets of luxury real estate.
Thank you so much to the Hudson Valley JFREJers for inviting me in to your community for a beautiful Passover Seder.
Looking forward to hitting the streets with these new friends and neighbors!!

Thinking about the "swiss cheese"
#GoodCause
deal and how few of our legislators actually know what it feels like to be at risk of eviction.
I do. That's why I'm running for office - because we need more tenants in the halls of power.
Yesterday our team took part in the
@housing4allNY
campaign launch and knocked doors to talk to our neighbors about why we need to pass Good Cause Eviction and protect tenants NOW!

I’m so excited to share that as of January 12 we’ve raised $56,000!!
💸 648 individual donations
💸 180 in-district donors (whose donations will be matched!!)
💸 $0 from corporations, the real estate industry, or fossil fuel companies.

I've seen Airbnbs take over my hometown of Hudson, which is a popular destination for tourists from NYC.
The Hudson Valley needs short-term rental regulations, along with statewide laws like
#GoodCause
to protect tenants from displacement.
NEW: Airbnb broke our housing system. In some towns up to 40% of available apartments are Airbnbs.
But people are fighting back. When Irvine, California banned short-term rentals, rents dropped.
Now a movement to regulate Airbnb is sweeping the nation.
Excited to announce that my campaign has been endorsed by
@NYPANetwork
!
Excited to keep organizing alongside them to win a New York that works for all of us! 💪🏽
🚨Endorsement Alert🚨
Up Next NY proudly supports Claire Cousin for Assembly District 106.
Claire is a mom of 3, co-founder of the Hudson/Catskill Housing Coalition, & the first Black woman elected to the Columbia Co. Board of Supervisors.
We need her voice in Albany!
But this year, NYS launched a new program that provides public money to match small donations. Because of the 338 donations I received from folks in my district, I've reached the maximum public matching amount of $175k.
Plus, we've raised over $66k from 899 donations.
I'm excited to share that
@HudCatHousing
has endorsed my campaign!
I'm running for Assembly to fight for housing as a human right - to protect tenants, invest in building *truly* affordable housing, and ease the property tax burden on working and middle-class homeowners.
My daughter and I were proud to join
@UAW
workers on the picket line in Tappan during their historic strike!
I'm running for Assembly to raise the minimum wage and make it easier to unionize so every worker can get their fair share.
Solidarity! ✊🏾
My opponent didn't even register for the program — a reflection of her reliance on large contributions rather than small dollar donations from her constituents.
I'm proud to run a campaign that's powered by the people in our community. Let's keep building 🔥
I know what it’s like to have my heat shut off in the winter.
I know what it’s like to have thousands of dollars in utility debt.
And I know what it’s like to fear for my kids' future because we’re still subsidizing fossil fuels.
We need
#NYHEAT
and
#ClimateJobsJustice
!
I used to work as a home healthcare aide. It was hard work, and didn't pay enough. But I loved working with my clients.
I know how important is is that long-term care is accessible to all, and that care workers are paid fairly + get benefits.
Thank you

If you live in AD-106 and want to vote for our campaign on June 25 then you need to be a registered Democrat. Today is the last day to change your party registration!
Hudson Fam, we're hosting a

Town Hall on Friday 2/9 at the Hudson Public Library from 5:30-7:30 to answer all your questions about restorative justice.
RSVP:
My opponent, Assemblymember Didi Barrett, votes with Republicans and is working with the fossil fuel industry on legislation that would gut New York’s climate laws.
I’m running to give voters their first chance to decide what kind of Democrat they want representing them.
I’ve set a goal of raising $25,000 over the next week to power a campaign that is accountable to everyday people, not special interests.
AND: If you live in the district, your donation will get MATCHED by the state! 💸💸💸

As a lifelong renter and a lifelong Hudson resident, I'm so worried about being priced out of my hometown.
That's why I'm running for Assembly - so that families like mine can afford to stay in the Hudson Valley.
We need
#GoodCauseEviction
NOW!
I’m a lifelong renter who raised my family in Hudson public housing.
I know what it’s like to be at risk of eviction and homelessness, and doesn’t want anyone else to experience what my family did.
That's why I'm running for Assembly.
MERCH ALERT: We've got these gorgeous tote bags up in the campaign store rn, and they're only discounted until TONIGHT!
Grab a bag before the filing deadline at midnight and help build our grassroots movement for the Hudson Valley😎
