I finished my masters in school counseling and became a middle school counselor. I read 172 books. I grew some key friendships. I kept parenting and partnering. I gave up soccer because of my knees — prioritizing long-term mobility for traveling which was a big epiphany.

I grew up evangelical and can attest that this is absolutely true. It took me a while to understand that the whole “taking the Lord’s name in vain” they used to describe swearing actually described the depraved things they do to their fellow humans in God’s name.

I hate watching videos but I watched this one and found some comfort and inspiration. As I told a sobbing student at 8:15 this morning “Today we grieve and rage. And then the adults go to battle for you. And you’ll fight too, and we’ll all take care of each other while we do.”.

Based on my day as a middle school counselor I’d say the kids are *stressed* about tomorrow too even if they don’t realize it, because whew! Today was a day.

I held my then 8 year old as they sobbed and sobbed and said “What?!?!” in disbelief over and over. They’re 16 now, and I so wish they could vote.

Work as a middle school counsellor will keep me plenty busy tomorrow. But we have the day off on Election Day. Not sure how I’ll keep me and my anxious 11 year old busy that day, but Lego building and escaping into movies might be the way.

I had him as a 3rd grader. He’s in 7th now. Every year without fail, he tries. We are both in different school buildings now, but tonight? He showed up and smiled a giant smile when I opened the door. Love that kid!.

I’m usually out with my kids on Halloween, but tonight they went out together, and I got to pass out candy. Absolutely love seeing former students, especially the one who stops by every year and would always tell me the next day that I wasn’t home.

This is huge. I grew up in Waukesha. It was the reddest county in the state for a very long time. Hearing from friends who still live there that things have been slowly shifting is incredible to hear, because Waukesha is usually in the news for the opposite.

This all day. My teenager loves to go out trick-or-treating but also gets anxious that people will be mean. The same people who will say “Kids today only like their screens and don’t know how to interact with others!” obviously.

Two things: I have no oven/stove for the next month and a half and am delighted to know this exists!.Also, it’s super accessible…and making “laziness” into an immoral thing is such a problem in our country. It’s okay to be “lazy.”.

Trying to get the lighting situation in my office just right — the overhead fluorescent lights definitely needed covers. It’s a little dim now for my liking, but my students keep telling me how much they like coming into my office, so maybe it’s cozy and not dim
