Why is the present less colourful than the past? Hotel lobby in Pompei, 2025AD, vs laundry, pub counter top, and wealthy house interior in Pompeii 79AD

I'm in a domestic solar energy Facebook group that's outraged that the government might freeze Feed in Tariffs (which pay up to 75p/kwh) they're floating the idea of having a 'solar strike' they're spotting this would save everyone else money and have no real impact

If you had a Tube train seating 200 every 5 minutes, you'd move 2,400 people in an hour, not the 1,000 you can see here Triple that if people stood; 7,200... 7x the throughput The Las Vegas Loop is an amusing stunt, not serious transport.
One-hour timelapse (60x speed) of Central Station during @SEMASHOW. This is one of eight (soon to be 14!) Loop Stations which operated at this awesome @LVCVA event. On the day shown, Vegas Loop safely transported 29,755 passengers.

Stepping in to help plucky little Belgium, 111 years on. Glad to hear we're following our obligations under the 1832 or whenever treaty.

As I said in summer 2024, the Conservatives will split, those of them who hate immigrants will go Reform and those who hate houses to the Lib Dems
Why the Lib Dems are so NIMBY: 1) They embrace localism as an ideology; 2) They have their greatest successes in local elections; 3) Their recent renaissance has been in prosperous southern seats where established communities have more housing wealth at stake.

That's the correct choice for an American who's never spent 2 weeks in Europe. All of them would be a great choice though

This study presents new evidence of the financial impact of wind generation on the UK energy market, challenging the idea that sustainability, security, and affordability, are always in conflict....

You wouldn't believe it from parts of Twitter, but turns out renewable energy has been saving us lots of money Yes renewables cost money. But however fixated people get on AR7 strike prices and CfDs, not-renewables costs considerably more.

So turns out gas prices would be higher, if we were using more gas to generate electricity instead of wind. Who could have predicted that?
@rcolvile @Ed_Miliband Would gas prices be higher, or lower, if it weren't for renewable energy reducing gas demand?

this is a bit nuts. The Government (effectively) charges wind farms for use of the seafloor. Increasing the costs for wind farms, paid for ultimately by electricity bill-payers. "Circular taxation" is exactly it
Nearly 90% of these fees go to the Treasury. It’s a symptom of our out-of-control electricity system that govt charges rent to wind farms and then adds taxes onto bills to pay for them. To cut subsidies & make electricity cheaper, we need urgent reform of this ‘circular taxation’

Outraged to find that @marksandspencer have deleted all their tasty flavoured nuts from their range and replaced them with plain nuts. Spent at least 10 minutes wondering the store, disconsolate with my inability to find rosemary nuts anywhere

Half of all 2002/3-born Welsh children were granted SEN provision. However, against a backdrop of compounding dysfunction in Scotland and England, Wales turned the ship around. How 🏴 grasped the nettle and fixed its special needs system: a comprehensive summary. 🧵1/25
Onward don't seem to recognise that half of all Welsh children have special needs! Cut the education system some slack.
