I’ve mixed emotions making my Guardian debut in such sad circumstances, but it was an honour to write this obituary for Joey Jordison. Like countless others, I spent most of my teenage years in complete awe of Jordison’s talent. Rest in peace, Joey.

In combining both pummelling impact and nimble speed, Jordison defied his short stature to become a hulking master of rhythm – and the finest metal drummer of his era

20+ years as a music fan and this whole thing is still one of my favourite memories (and seeing them play London for free the following summer). Social media was actually good for a short time.

I'm a little late sharing this, but wow, what a great experience speaking with @marty_friedman for the Guardian ahead of his new album, Drama (out tomorrow). Looking forward to the autobiography later in the year!.

What a fantastic experience speaking to the man known as The Metal God (a living legend and lovely bloke to boot) ahead of Judas Priest's new album - which is out today. We covered everything from Dolly Parton to Walsall sex shops. 🤘.

I'm aware that I say this sort of thing every other month, but speaking to Rush's Geddy Lee for the Guardian was a tremendous honour. His memoir is out now, and (while the fan in me is very biased. ) it's an amazingly insightful, hard-hitting read.

As he publishes his memoir My Effin’ Life, the abundantly talented bass player and singer answers your questions on the end of the band, the prospect of new music – and Jack Black’s bum crack
