Cannot recommend this enough, both as subject specific pedagogy and general day-to-day understanding of the kids we teach (& the way language is integral in understanding who we are)! 2 incredible researchers very much turning theory into praxis! Thank you for the opportunity ✨.
last month 15 amazing teachers came to manchester for a 2-day summer school on linguistic justice. it was taught by me and april baker-bell. here we are doing our summaries at the end of day 2. we're organising a summer school in detroit next year, and manchester again soon. 💜

A BIG red flag about schools 🚩 . 1) they have a “talent” pool.2) they are Lemov-ified and don’t understand research.3) they police kids rather than teach kids i.e., SLANT .4) they plaster “OFSTED OUTSTANDING” everywhere .5) they “train” teachers - reality = deskilling so hard!.

Oracy is yet another educational fad/distraction that doesn’t work. Focus on Oracy forces a school to organise itself around a mistaken concept, making it harder to succeed - not impossible, but harder. We do NOT do Oracy at Michaela. 1/15.
