If Edward Said were alive today, he would have been more radical. Seeing your people annihilated will do that to you.

If Edward Said were alive now, the BDS organisation would likely cancel him for the Divan Orchestra bc it includes Jewish Israelis. In fact, BDS boycotted Divan in 2010 over Said’s widow’s objections. It even criticised Qatar for inviting Divan. Beinart is following its leaders

He was right the first time. We should be encouraging and cultivating the few Israelis willing to stand against what their government is doing. Refusing to speak at TAU does nothing to undermine the Israeli war machine. It just means students there never hear views like his.

The most damaging thing about this book is that it condemns the resistance and reproduces the same tropes.

One damaging thing about "one day, everyone will have always been against this" is that it's not true. One day, many people (Zionists, Islamophobes, white nationalists, settlers, liberal racists too) will still be for this. Saying otherwise gives cover to this historical reality.

The conventional armies of the imperialist powers cannot defeat guerrilla resistance militarily, because it outmaneuvers them & regenerates itself, so they resort to genocide against the popular cradle of the resistance, from Palestine to Lebanon, in varying paces & forms.

I believe that, especially following the past few years, it has become certain to the US and Zionists that the resistance’s support base is in itself the danger to their colonial plots. That, despite decades of crimes against the resistance community, it only drove it to uphold

A striking example of how western media deliberately uses air quotes when it suits to seed doubt in Palestinian narratives, and uncertain verbs (“appears to”) when casting Israel in negative news while adding extra sensational language for Palestinians (“graphic scenes”)

By speaking earlier this week at Tel Aviv University, I made a serious mistake. In the past, when formulating my views about Israel-Palestine, I’ve sought out Palestinian friends and interlocutors and listened carefully to their views. In this case, I did not. I really wanted

Celebrating "Thanksgiving" is like celebrating the Nakba. Feel-good traditions and customs obscure the violent historical realities of colonialism in a haze of nostalgia. We should reject these lies despite whatever personal costs they may have to us. Today is a day of mourning.

On the issue of genocide, It’s not so much the numbers of people killed (though that is in and of itself immense) but the total destruction of the ability to live in Gaza, on every level. It will take decades for genuine recovery.

Now that @X has doubled down on suppressing accounts sharing appeals from Gaza - while the strip is literally flooding on top of the still-active genocide - it’s more important than ever to keep sharing https://t.co/gZgmYRSsKU & do IRL promo like @kids4palestine does.

Adorno and Horkheimer were Zs. Just read some of the things they wrote: "No one even ventures to point out that these Arab robber states have been on the lookout for years for an opportunity to fall upon Israel and to slaughter the Jews who have found refuge there.”

Important to remember many of the philosophical darlings of the so-called western left contributed to much of the anti-Arab bigotry which became normalized in politics, media, rhetoric, etc.

@PeterBeinart In over 30 years as a trauma psychologist, I’ve seen this exact posture in abused women and in people caught inside cultic systems. When they speak, they frame not checking in with the group’s gatekeepers as a kind of sin, as if having an independent thought requires repentance.

Unless the global scales are rebalanced, no matter the social democratic activities, the welfare & the unionism, Western working classes cannot be transformed or re-educated into revolutionaries because they are ontologically rooted in the practice of imperialist war. —Ali Kadri

Asking people to boycott academic institutions that develop genocidal machinery and then give full scholarships to those who operate that machinery is not a purity test. It’s basic decency and the bare minimum in an active ongoing genocide.

One reason I cannot think of a clearer example of an Indigenous people than the Jewish People is precisely because indigeneity has never been a question of racial status or blood-and-soil logics, despite the way antizionist imperialists and fascists relentlessly try to frame it.
