Cognitive bias (Dunning-Kruger Effect): the less you know, the less able you are to recognize how little you know. For the highly skilled, the opposite is true: The more you know, the more likely you are to see how little you know.

My students are so excited about my upcoming sabbatical, because they think I work too hard. They even clapped at the end of class. Alas, I already have so many projects planned that a sabbatical is unlikely to fix the problem 😉

Amazing what one uncovers during #COVID19 housecleaning! This doctoral fellowship bought me a cute little Macintosh SE computer — transforming the work from handwriting and typewriter. That was very exciting. Is this the equivalent to walking 5 miles to school in the snow?😁

It is important when we prescribe exercise to encourage daily activity as well as exercise. The message of “do something” is a start, but relaying the message of progressing toward intentional exercise in addition to daily physical activities is optimal as @ACSMNews recommends.

Engaging in 'structured exercise' has beneficial metabolic effects far beyond those of just incidental activity. Public health messages of 'just taking the stairs' or 'walking to the next bus stop' need to ensure they are not selling ppl short on real benefits of actual exercise!

One of the hardest parts of being a faculty member is when your doctoral mentees struggle financially& they have to take on additional work. then their dissertation progress slows to a tickle and they can’t take advantage of that protected time “full support” doc fellowship

How would you feel about the message “sitting is the new smoking” if you were in a wheelchair or a person with physical function limitations?

I have a 20+ years of a devoted #pilates practice that never gets easier & frequently seems unpleasant . I wonder why some of us persist in (and love) doing hard exercise day after day while to others it is intolerable. What determines our preferences?

@chrisemdin Couldn’t agree more! I have instituted flexible deadlines for a while and most students get their work done “on time” or within a day or two. It helps a lot to ease stress. I check in with those who are more than a couple of days late to make sure they are ok and offer support

PAGAC 2018: lots of ways to benefit from PA. There is no threshold for health benefits: Even a little MVPA is good, more is better, and replacing sedentary time with light activity is also beneficial. #ACSMSummit @ACSMNews @EIMnews

Disheartened that as much as we think we have made strides in equality for women it is clear today that not so much has changed. Experiences of women are discounted while masculine bullying behavior is rewarded and admired.
