A very good point that poorly conceived skewing of where elections took place flattered Reformβs successes.
The govt decision to cancel elections in Surrey, Hampshire and Sussex, and stop the likely huge Liberal Democrat gains in those areas, left an electoral landscape skewed in Reformβs favour. It was the wrong decision for local accountability, in retrospect terrible politics.

Carney and Albanese both played the patriotic card while Starmer left that up to Farage and (to some extent) the @LibDems Buy British campaign. That seems to me to be one reason why recent elections were so different in the UK.
