The striking Art Deco interior of Mounts Baths, Northampton (1936) is dominated by eight concrete parabolic arches. Unlike Victorian baths, the changing rooms were set back from the poolside, forcing swimmers to pass through mandatory showers and footbaths.

Zaha Hadid was the first woman to receive the

on her own (rather than in a partnership), in 2016. This is a student design from the start of her career, which reimagines Trafalgar Square as an elaborate multi-storeyed arcaded structure.

Designed by award-winning architects Powell & Moya in 1968, Putney Pool is one of the best examples of modernist-style municipal public baths. The L-shaped design allowed diving to take place whilst the main pool was in use, removing the need for a separate diving pool.
