"Be not conformed to this society — nor kill yourself to make it love you — but be transformed in it, against it, by the renewal of your mind, body, and spirit. No matter the cost." Believe this more now than when I wrote it 5 years ago. 🖤

Write down every fear that keeps you from being the leader your community needs right now. Write down every habit that distracts you from your own power. Write down every mistake you still hold against yourself. Then, under tonight’s Aries Full Moon, burn what you’ve written.

Literature in translation. Literature in translation. Literature in transition.
Look if you think that contemporary literature is growing stale, I can only recommend that you stop being so afraid to read things that haven't been vetted by your peers. Have an opinion! Find something weird and new!

a common misunderstanding i see when it comes to embarking on some sort of endeavor is assuming that a low probability event will likely never happen, rather than it being near-inevitable if you can persist long enough to take enough shots on target

this was, understandably, the last time they invited me to Morning Joe 😂 [2019] . I wasn't trying to be nasty but i had realized how the media is invested in our ignorance -- the less we understand, the more "complicated" things seem, the more we tune in -- or, rather, the more

When i used to speak at predominantly black high schools, I literally would come with a list of niche jobs I researched and try to convince some kids based on their interests. Finally paid off 😭 I have 3 focused on arts admin, a Fragrance Chemist getting ready for her masters.

🧵I saw an Aboriginal aunty busking in Newtown last night. She plays the saxophone & it was special. I listened for 20mins, dropped $50 into her case & said "You remind me of Marlene Cummings, the great blues & Jazz artist from way back." She looked up, crying: "I am Marlene."
