A bird (in netherlandish: VOGEL) likely can mean a GUY. In Bosch’s time around 1500AD this use of the word Vogel probably was well-known already.
@boschbot BIRDS It must be emphasized that the old NL “Vogel/Vueg(h)el” [=BIRD] also meant GUY. F.i. Dutch & Flemish painters had from ~1623 a club in Rome <the BENTVEUGHELS>. Their drinking parties were notorious from 1650 until Pope Clemens banned such gatherings outside Carnival in 1720

@caseiokey @boschbot VERONICA’S LEGEND started ~13c: During His carrying of the cross, Veronica gave Christ a sweat cloth. The depiction of His face’s impression became popular. Bosch & Studio painted it several times. Followers used it too. “Veronica” is explained as <vera icon> the real depiction.

@boschbot An enigmatic scene happens behind the Turned-over Table. A clearly pregnant Birdhead-Woman threatens to hit a man with a TrikTrak board. I found a fitting Netherlandish saying of ca.1484! “When whores swear, then it’s looking out of the belly (or: that's how shame breaks out).”
