A former Iranian policeman due to be deported to Rwanda tomorrow has been told by the Home Office that his ticket has been cancelled. He'd been sentenced to jail in Iran after he ordered his men not to use fire-arms to control nation-wide protests in November 2019.
@carolinehawley
"Bahram" had fled to Turkey.
After giving evidence remotely to an inquiry in London, his father in Iran was arrested and his 11-year old interrogated to find out his whereabouts. He no longer felt safe and escaped, getting on a boat that arrived in the UK in May
I've been told those still due to be expelled to Rwanda tonight are 2 Iraqi Kurds, 3 Iranians, 1 Albanian and 1 Vietnamese man. One of the Iraqi Kurds is said to be extremely distressed and on suicide watch in Brook House detention centre

One man's drastic stand against Iran's IRGC. More than 5 weeks without food. His supporters are appealing to him to end the hunger strike for his own safety
Day 21
#FreeNazanin
Today I have promised Nazanin to end the hunger strike
Gabriella needs two parents
Thank you all for your overwhelming care these past three weeks
It's the standing on the chair that gets me here, Gabriella having to be so grown-up, the stakes so high for this family who haven't been together for 5 and a half years ...
“It means a lot to me and my cell mates. I hope one day we may live in a world where we do not have to fight for our freedom”: Gabriella Nazanin-Ratcliffe, 7, reads a message from her jailed mother Nazanin, the U.K.-Iranian national jailed over 2,000 days ago
2,000 days since she was arrested - a family separated for well over 5 YEARS. Nazanin's husband, Richard, and daughter Gabriella will mark the day with the family of Anoosheh Ashoori calling for government action. Last night, Iran again demanded the UK repay its £400 million debt
Last month we reported on Mustafa whose mum and dad were killed in a barrel bomb in Syria - which injured him so badly he spent a year in hospital. Happy to say that he and his sister and grandmother have now arrived to start a new life in Australia!
Richard Ratcliffe is "disappointed" that the embassy won't be accompanying Nazanin to tomorrow's court hearing in Tehran. Nazanin herself is - as you might imagine - extremely tense and nervous
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe celebrates a 6th birthday far from her London home. Richard and Gabriella can only see her on a phone screen. And anyone who's had to isolate this Xmas knows what a poor substitute that is for being with the people you love in the flesh
Day 20 of Richard Ratcliffe’s hunger strike at Foreign Office. He tells me he’s ‘outraged’at the way the government ‘is letting his wife’s detention in Iran drag on’.

What’s your message to him & Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe?
This tells you all you need to know about Richard Ratcliffe and Nazanin - they're okay now, but thinking about Morad who's been left behind. Apparently Nazanin spoke to his family today, on her first day back home with her own family
So lovely to have uplifting conversations with Richard and Nazanin today.
They are both relentless in their pursuit of justice and raised the plight of Morad Tahbaz with me. Here I was hoping to sleep for a week…
Here’s their first family selfie!

Forthright and funny, composed and dignified. After 6 years of hearing about Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe's ordeal in Iran, today we finally got to hear her voice.

"It doesn't come back. Those years are gone .. We just hope there aren't more years to go." Richard Ratcliffe as he and Gabriella prepare for a 6th Christmas without Nazaznin
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe has been detained in Iran since 2016.
Her husband has told

how he and their young daughter are preparing to spend their sixth Christmas without her.
The Foreign Office has summoned the Iranian charge d’affaires over Iran’s crackdown on protests following the death of Mahsa Amini.
@JamesCleverly

Kylie Moore-Gilbert says despite her "long and traumatic ordeal" in jail in Iran and the "injustices" she's been subjected to: "I came to Iran as a friend and with friendly intentions, and depart Iran with those sentiments not only still intact, but strengthened"
agonising wait today for Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and her family to see if she's been granted clemency - and still no news. Nazanin had nightmares last night. the strain of not knowing whether you're heading home or heading back to jail is hard to bear
@followMFJ
apparently he only arrived on 17th May - was forced to work along the route by traffickers as he couldn't pay. the other Iraqi Kurd says he fled the Middle East after his father started beating him
Thank you to the many MPs from all parties who participated and spoke in yesterday’s Westminster Hall debate, led by our amazing MP

Nazanin was able to watch the debate from Iran, and told me it made her cry.
Your care moved us all.

As Nazanin and her family prepare for a 6th Christmas apart, a new festive hit? New single by 1980s pop band, the Christians, aims to keep them in the public eye. First released in 1991 for British journalist, John McCarthy, being held hostage by militants in Beirut.
Profoundly moved by the humanity of Noa Argamani's father - who knows no more of what happened to his daughter since she was filmed, terrified, as she was kidnapped into Gaza by motorbike from the music festival
"Let us make peace with our neighbors, in any way possible. I want there to be peace; I want my daughter to come back. Enough with the wars. They too have casualties, they too have captives, and they have mothers who weep. We are two peoples to one Father. Let’s make real peace.”
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is meeting Boris Johnson as we speak - big on her agenda is to push him to do more to get British environmentalist, Morad Tahbaz, home. He's still in Evin jail in poor health
I can't get this out of my head. The utter horror of so many women, children and men drowning inside as it sank. Who were they all? What were they escaping? And what new lives could they have had?

He's 77 years old, yet this American man - a former hostage in Iran after the 1979 Islamic Revolution - is putting his health on the line in the hope that it'll help free current hostages from several Western countries. Among them Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori
Day 3 of my hunger strike. This morning I proudly joined the Iranian-Austrian community for their

Brilliant news for one woman, one family - Aras Amiri was arrested in Tehran in 2018 while visiting her grandmother, accused of spying and sentenced to 10 years. Now she's home. Families of others detained in Iran watch and wait and hope ..
We are pleased to confirm that British Council employee Aras Amiri has been acquitted in Iran of all charges following a successful appeal lodged by her lawyer. She has returned to the UK.

Again no decision on clemency.
This morning Nazanin called the Prosecutors Office, as requested, for a decision on her clemency. Like last week, she has been asked to call back on Wednesday.
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe has been given a one-year sentence and one year travel ban on charges of propaganda against the regime. Her husband, Richard, says she's not been summoned to prison at this point. He said the verdict was a really bad sign and they will appeal

On day 16 of Richard Ratcliffe's hunger strike, Liz Truss spoke by phone to Iranian counterpart. He urged UK to settle its military debt. FCDO response:“We continue to explore options to resolve this 40 year old case and will not comment further as legal discussions are ongoing.”
Today, Richard Ratcliffe is beginning a hunger strike outside the FCDO in Whitehall to push the government to take stronger action to get his wife, Nazanin, home. Wants the PM to settle the tank debt and call her a "hostage" of the Iranian state
It's the details of Nazanin's abuse that really get to me, deliberate cruelty. In solitary confinement, a female guard made her listen to loud conversations with her own child, while she was desperately missing Gabriella. One sanitary pad allowed a month.
Amnesty International: “Expelling people seeking asylum to Rwanda – a country with its own asylum and human rights challenges to address - is irresponsible, callous and a disaster in the making .. a desperate and dismal repeat of a now-abandoned deal struck by Israel"

At almost 68, Anoosheh Ashoori is refusing food in a Tehran prison cell - his family say he's being held hostage over the £400 million debt which Britain owes Iran for a decades-old tank deal that was never fulfilled
She says: "I have nothing but respect, love and admiration for the great nation of Iran and its warm-hearted, generous and brave people." A friend said she'd learned Farsi in jail and had comforted new prisoners
His 444 days as a hostage in Iran - after the Islamic Revolution of 1979 - shaped the rest of his life. Now, at 77, he's doing all he can to help get those currently being held in Tehran home - and to support their families.
On Day 3 of my hunger strike I am starting to feel tired. My Austrian-Iranian doctor has found my blood pressure is high which is worrying. I will continue as long as I can. The messages of support from families and hostages themselves help keep me going

No news for Nazanin and her family today. So another stressful day in limbo, waiting to hear if she'll have to go back to jail. Amnesty International says: “There should be no question of her being sent back to Evin Prison - not in a few weeks’ time, not ever."
Richard Ratcliffe says his wife’s ankle tag has been removed but Nazanin has been told that a new court case against her has been scheduled for next Sunday.

It should be a simple ask of an ally - is our citizen, in one of your jails, still alive? Sisters of Alaa Abdel Fattah urge Rishi Sunak to press Egypt for proof of life, as they wait desperately for any scraps of news
As Nazanin, Richard and Gabriella spend their 1st weekend together in 6 years, his sister speaks of the strength of their relationship: "Whatever devils there are, they know they love each other." (And never mind that the flat is a tip!)
“In almost any sphere of abuse you can think of,” says Richard Ratcliffe .. “whether that’s domestic abuse or sexual abuse or even some annoying neighbour trying to move a fence, keeping quiet is never in your interests, but the interests of the abuser.”
Oxfam has calculated that, during coronavirus, just 10 men in the world have increased their wealth enough to pay for vaccines for the entire planet AND to reverse the poverty caused by the pandemic. Describing the situation as "shameful," it calls for fair taxation
Morad Tahbaz is a wildlife conservationist trying to track endangered cheetahs in Iran when he was arrested. He's on hunger strike, his family says, after he was promised he'd be released as part of the deal that brought Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori home
This morning at 8am Tehran time, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was taken to court from her parents' home - to face new charges. Last week, Iran's Revolutionary Guard threatened she'd go back to jail. Richard Ratcliffe says she's traumatised.

Interesting. Iranian ambassador says UK/Iran are "close" to resolving dispute over £400 million debt - exploring how to transfer the money. "I don't see any sign that the UK govt is not serious." Non-payment, it's clear, means non-release of British nationals in Tehran
