Just a ranty thread on why we need a leader with a vision for the UK. We face: 1️⃣a taxation crises 2️⃣a housing crises 3️⃣a childcare cost crises 4️⃣a wage growth crises We cannot plod along, being taxed in poverty like this. #CostOfLivingCrisis #energycrisis #FridayMotivation
2 million extra higher rate tax payers since 2019. The UK is literally being taxed into poverty during a #CostOfLivingCrisis. I thought people voted for low tax Tory’s, not Jeremy Corbyn in disguise.

I won’t even lie, the Conservatives are coming out with some half decent policy. The questions that I still have are: 1) Are we cutting enough? Is the £47billion a year or over the parliament. If over the parliament then it’s not serious 2) Can we believe them this time?
A future @Conservatives government will: CUT your taxes. ABOLISH Stamp Duty. ABOLISH Business Rates for pubs and shops on high streets. And deliver a big, bold offer for YOUNGER PEOPLE. All because of the decisions we have set out to live within our means.

The economically illiterate still think it was Liz Truss that caused the cost of living crises and not the absurd response to Covid that shutdown the world economy and made central banks across the entire world print trillions & trillions to pay people to sit at home. 😂
I can see @Conservatives trying to absurdly reinvent themselves on economy. The public still living through the cost of living crisis Truss catalysed; the ripple effects of a botched Brexit and public services left after austerity went wrong. Six chancellors in five years.

All expansions of the welfare state have a ‘ratchet effect’, where they are easy to introduce but politically damaging - even impossible - to reverse. Reform & the Conservatives need to start rolling the pitch for radical welfare reform, not just piecemeal cuts. It will be
The introduction of the triple lock may be the single most stupid and destructive policy of the last century. It's political suicide to scrap it, and fiscal suicide if we don't. All parties playing chicken, hoping someone else will take the bullet until the IMF steps in.

Really disappointed to read reports that the Reform county council in Kent is set to significantly increase council tax. This is simply not the way, and it was certainly not the messaging - big promises were made, and they seemingly won’t be kept. Expanding the size of the state

The UK has 11M people who are working age but don’t work. We have just over 32M actual workers. That means 25% of working age people aren’t working! Every single day 1000 people sign onto benefits claiming to be too sick to work. After WW2 a total of 2% of the population were

Taxes are at record highs paid for by wages still lower than they were in 2008 We can’t afford our own rents, energy bills etc let alone subsiding the idle & the 1in5 millionaire pensioners. We need to rip the plaster off, get people working and keeping more of their own money

Why not take it a step further though Rupert. No taxpayer money for anyone, not just foreigners. Why should taxpayers subsidise *ANY* lazy person?
It seems there is a growing consensus in Westminster that paying lazy foreigners benefits to do absolutely sod all might not be the most productive idea we've ever had as a country... FINALLY. We must draw a line - no benefits for foreigners.

Who raised taxes by £40bn to fix a £20bn blackhole yet now has a £50bn blackhole again? Economic geniuses….🤣 Yes the Tories were bad but Labour is worse
You couldn’t make it up… the Tories’ claim to be “for fiscal responsibility” while wracking up £7bn/yr of promises in just a few hours: - £4bn cutting business rates - £3bn on £5k for house deposits

Finally some Tory policies to shout about👏
Huge news at the @Conservatives conference @ClaireCoutinho announces she will scrap the Renewables Obligation in addition to the previously announced commitment to scrap the Climate Change Act She will also scrap carbon taxes on electricity generation Together these can cut

Labour under Rachel Reeves economic “stewardship” has stalled UK economic growth & seen unemployment rise We can’t increase taxes even further as it will slow down growth even further, lowering tax receipts and putting the UK in a doom loop We need lower taxes & lower spending

Ok, I take some of it back. This £47bn is over 5 years and not every year so actually a lot more work is still needed but £10bn a year savings is at least a start. A rather timid start, but a start nonetheless.

This is a decent start and fair play to the Conservatives & Kemi Badenoch for this. 👏 I still think we still have to go even further, such is the level of rot plus the fact we are borrowing £150bn a year, but nonetheless its a good start and credit where it’s due.
🚨 NEW: The Tories will unveil £47bn in savings tomorrow to "ensure the country lives within our means" - £23bn from welfare cuts - £8bn from reducing the Civil Service to 2016 levels - £7bn from major cuts to overseas aid - £7.5bn from new borders plan

If I was PM, I’d: - deport every single illegal arrival - scrap triple lock - time limit benefits to 2yrs for 99% - lower taxes - increase spending on the armed forces - increase NHS training spots - reform planning restrictions - scrap net zero - go big on nuclear #BBCLauraK

Your weekly Sunday reminder The UK Govt spends £3,000 million every day yet it wants more money from us, from our wages that are still lower than in 2008 after inflation, despite our taxes being at record highs already We can’t afford the Govt anymore 1/2 #BBCLauraK #phillips

Given how badly Labour is doing under the rudderless Keir Starmer, the Conservatives ought to be polling far better Just much longer can / should Kemi be given? Until the May locals? She isn’t cutting through. The party is drifting into irrelevant Lib Dem territory #BBCLauraK
