Today on Volts: "uneconomic dispatch" is when utilities run coal plants even when there are cheaper options, just to justify keeping them open. Based on a bogus Trump reliability report, that practice is about to get much more common, and worse. I talk with an expert.

The U.S. Steel Clairton plant has had a LONG HISTORY of accidents, malfunctions and toxic pollution and has never been sufficiently repaired to prevent further problems. The plant is ancient, built in 1916. Time to transition to green steel!
