New @nejm study median 5.1 years MACE = 4.81/1000PY in #pitavastatin and 7.32/1000PY in placebo. Text claims 5 year NNT = 106. What am I missing? Looks like 5 year NNT = 1/(7.32/1000-4.81/1000) = 398 to me. Statistically significant but clinically?.

Building consensus - much published literature of questionable veracity. Read 3 articles this week where conclusions are IMHO, at least marginally, misinformed, or maybe being too “picky”? Discomfort due to (mis) interpretations of p values. Details here

Kudos for #nejm article tackling challenging Q of extracorporeal CPR vs conventional CPR. Can Bayesian analysis provide additional insights into the published conclusion of “similar effects on survival”? One answer here @f2harrell @kaulcsmc @drjohnm

Ok can’t get rid of NHST, how about some common sense in interpretation. Recent paper “hs-cTn was associated with a shorter length of stay (median 47.6 hours vs 48.0 hours; ratio: 0.94; 95% CI: 0.90-0.98).” Δ 24 min! Clinically meaningful? Measurement error? Confounding?.

Just reviewed paper with 18 authors - conclusion no morality difference btw 2 contrasts (RR 1.0, 95% CI 0.5-2.0). Obvious faulty conclusion that mixes "absence of evidence with evidence of absence". My existential question is . 1/2.
