New paper out in @braincomms ! We developed a morphine-conditioned protocol suitable for contextual stimuli presentation inside a fMRI scanner, to analyse functional maps of drug-related memory that may support the relapse-triggering ability of opioids.

Here is our favourite example of the brain signal truly 'lighting up' in a single mouse. It shows increased blood flow (indicated by more yellow) in the striatum, accumbens, and cingulate areas after the administration of a neuroactive drug, amphetamine.

You all know how fMRI results are often described as 'brain areas lighting up'? It's a metaphorical way of referring to the statistical 'colouring in' of regions with increased signals, typically using red-yellow hues.

It's not a ‘one size fits all’ for stress; both extremes can lead to abnormalities, as seen in earlier findings also by Sandi et al. (. Seems it's all about striking the right stress balance!.
