As engineers, we should spend just as much time building toys as we spend building tools... When people have a chance to PLAY, it lights up their mind with possibilities, and the things we originally built as toys quickly start to become essential tools. Creative work needs play!

I'm just an ordinary hairless ape, but even I can perform symbolic renaming of variables in the IDE of my choice! Claude has grep and can write elaborate sed/awk scripts. But why can't Claude interact with the compiler and ask it to perform safe refactoring operations?

One missing tool from the agentic-coding toolbox is: symbolic refactoring. Whenever Claude renames a variable in my codebase, it has to rename every instance of that string, on every line, in every file. Like a caveman.

So, @Anthropic, as you’re working on the Claude “memory” subsystems, think about creating some kind of bridge between Claude Code and the https://t.co/vlHZwX7Gtf contexts. I’d love to be able to muse with https://t.co/vlHZwX7Gtf about the contents of my Claude Code sessions

But also, I often talk to Claude (in the app or web UI) when I’m away from the CC console, and I discuss a lot of the same ideas and discussions as I engage in, in the CC console context.

A lot of those conversations have little gens I’d like to preserve. So please give us some way to record and revisit those interactions. Right now, they just get compacted into oblivion…

And then going straight from there into high-level architecture data modeling and engineering and scaling and infrastructure. It’s astonishing.

But also bouncing ideas around, joking qnd snarking with, goofing on a dumb idea with, and then throwing together prototypes, and thinking on side projects and weird ideas, and realizing that some of the dumb ideas aren’t so dumb after all!

First of all, I’m a huge @claudeai enthusiast. Claude Code is the best pair-programming workflow I’ve ever experienced in my career. And as the models have progressed, I’ve been more and more impressed with Claude’s abilities as a collaborator: writing code, sure…

I'm more sympathetic to folks who air unreasonable views reasonably than those who air reasonable views unreasonably.

Madison was very clear that speech needed to be free, but not free of consequences, meaning social consequences of more speech. If you can embarrass a person for saying terrible things, that’s in bounds. Now a law mandating firing for criticism of Kirk would be different.

@mtaibbi From what I can tell all the firings have been over people advocating his assassination and even promoting further assassinations. This is, and has always been, a crime. Very different than demanding people be fired for not wanting a vaccine mandate or questioning election

Very few of us know the people at the tip of the spear. We can make the biggest impact by uniting against the handle, making that behavior far more taboo than it is now.

The murder of Charlie Kirk is part of a disturbing rise in political violence that threatens to hollow out our public life. A free society relies on the premise that people can speak out without fear or humiliation. No more political violence.

There’s something new and frightening in the tone of the responses to Charlie Kirk’s killing … America’s really changed.

I want to make a quick side point that it I cannot be healthy, individually or societally, to be exposed to endless footage of people being gruesomely murdered in graphic detail on our phones. The horrific videos of Iryna Zarutska and Charlie Kirk are not healthy to watch. We

Or better yet... ME: Hey @grok, remember our chat from a few days ago, about the movie Gladiator 2? And our other chat from last week about the Aztec empire? << GROK REMEMBERS, USING RAG >> GROK: Yeah, I remember. Let's examine the common threads of those two conversations...

Along those same lines... ME: Hey Grok, how many times have we talked about the Roman Empire? GROK: Ten times this month, and twenty times last month... Holy hell!
