Catholics have dethroned Latter-day Saints for the world’s largest speed dating event. This is the kind of wholesome rivalry America needs.

Meta-analysis in math ed: higher achievement is associated with more enjoyment, hope, and pride—and with less anger, boredom, frustration, and shame. Emotions and outcomes move together, so instructional design shapes more than just scores.

Friends- This is a tough note to write, but since a bunch of you have started to suspect something, I’ll cut to the chase: Last week I was diagnosed with metastasized, stage-four pancreatic cancer, and am gonna die. Advanced pancreatic is nasty stuff; it’s a death sentence.

People in the comments are denying America is very rich. But America simply *is* very rich! This holds when accounting for things like healthcare, PPPs, and so on.

Mormon’s high praise of Captain Moroni always stands out: “If all men [were] like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever”. But what was it about Moroni that impressed Mormon so much?

“One of the more straightforward ways to show debasement is via the price of Campbell’s tomato soup. Rather than relying on a complex set of estimates and substitutions, it’s just a history record of what the same can of soup cost over time.”

Math anxiety: meta analysis of longitudinal studies suggests a bi-directional relationship. Being bad at math makes you anxious when doing it AND being anxious about it impairs performance. https://t.co/cUheLRD4CU

This is some serious negative mental filtering on display. Friends don’t let friends do reverse CBT to themselves (or others). Filtering out the miracles doesn’t make you a clear-eyed realist. It makes you blind!

It's an empirical fact that basically everything in our day to day lives has gotten worse over the years. The quality of everything -- food, clothing, entertainment, air travel, roads, traffic, infrastructure, housing, etc -- has declined in observable ways. Even newer inventions
