We make this point in The Startup of You -- injecting volatility into your day to day career (in micro or macro ways) builds resilience over time. Controlled burns make a forest more resilient to devastating, unexpected forest fires.
You need to give your girl the ick a little sometimes in order to cultivate an antifragile relationship. A lack of regular predictable ick is setting yourself for more destabilizing ick shock.

I’ve learned from success and I’ve learned from failure. *Other* variables tend to determine the intensity of the learning — e.g. how much personal agency did I have in the thing that generated the lesson?.
I was the VP of Product at Flexport when we grew from $1M to $500M in revenue. And I was the CEO of Placement where we grew from $0 to $1M to $0. And, to be honest, I learned radically more from my successes than my mistakes. Winning teaches you a *lot* more than losing.

Awareness practice is a continuous quest to separate out *you* from the experience you’re having — to look upon the present from some remove.
To be aware is to be awake. Unaware means asleep. You are aware anyhow; you need not try to be. What you need is to be aware of being aware. Be aware deliberately and consciously; broaden and deepen the field of awareness. Nisargadatta, I Am That, Chapter 48.
