@allartmarkets @MatthiasThiema3 @Nathan__Coombs @charomki @JuliusKob @NataschaZwan Whilst I'm at it, I've also recently published this paper with @sebastianmkohl, putting the emergence of Alpine and Maritime insurance traditions into a long-term perspective, and questioning the relation between private insurance and welfare states.

If you want to know more about how insurance in Britain fared in the age of finance, and the cultural shifts and conflicts that ensued within the insurance business, you could check out this book (in your library; or when you don't have library access, PM me) 5/6.

It describes financialization of insurance 'in the making': the emergence of (and conflicts between) competing rationalities in the insurance business. One rooted in the tradition of actuarial expertise; the other in modern finance theory as it emerged in the 1970s onwards. 2/6.
