Thrilled to see the introductory paper to our guest edited special issue, written by @MatthiasThiema3 and I, published in @EconSocJournal. We argue that central banks play a crucial role in maintaining and transforming the state-economy boundary.

Such a perfect trilogy of films about love and relationships. This lovely video essay breaks down what is so profound about these minimalist films about connection and attraction.

Good explainer of why Trump policies and vibe are sending the US economy into turbo drive. There’s a lot the UK should learn from this. via @financialtimes.

Huge congratulations to @DylanCassar_ for publishing this important paper in @FinandSoc. One of the first significant developments in performativity theorising of financial markets for a long while.

My new paper is out in Finance and Society! I argue that QE is performative via the ontological shaping of financial markets, moulding them away from dysfunctionality and towards efficiency, driven by epistemic models. Check it out!

I was quoted in the headline for a story in The National about how Labour’s negative tone since taking power and their resulting unpopularity are undermining the government’s growth mission. Where is the optimism to unleash the animal spirits?

The irresponsibility spans multiple governments from both political parties but the recent decision by Labour to prohibit extraction of gas from our own North Sea fields (to rely on imports instead) must count as the most self defeating public policy choice in recent history.

How reliance on wind power is leaving the UK dangerously exposed to risk of black outs and the whims of other countries, contributing to deindustrialisation, and driving the cost of living crisis.

Europeans will never understand the United States: it’s optimism, industriousness, belief in hard work and meritocracy, its patriotism, love of freedom, and flat social hierarchy, it’s ‘dream’. Easy to mock, but it’s made the country the motor force of the modern world.

Crossing the line of the final race of the season at Tinto hill. I love this race: it’s short (7km), nice amount of elevation gain (475m), the route has paths rather than narrow muddy grids, and the downhill is pretty runnable by Scottish hill racing standards.

@TheEconomist’s report on how the US is leaving Europe behind in wealth per capita is worth reading in full. Peculiar silence on this throughout social sciences, but is most important development of last 20 years.
