as a victim (not SA but still abuse) i can tell you that abusers can absolutely look pathetic from time to time. it doesn't mean they're not abusers, it just makes you put your guard down so you'll be less prepared when they try to hurt you again.
People complain about how Valentino isn't a good villain because they have scenes with him being pathetic in one scene and then threatening in the next scene. Valentino is based off of one of Viv's exes. So wouldn't it make sense to depict her ex as pathetic and awful?.
