OCT 31: #OnThisDay in 1930, astronaut Michael Collins was born in Rome, Italy. Chosen in NASA’s 3rd astronaut class in 1963, Collins served on both Gemini X and Apollo 11. Along with his career at NASA, Collins ended his military career as Major General in the USAF.

OCT 29: #OnThisDay in 1998, astronaut and Ohio senator John Glenn lifted off on STS-95, making him the oldest person to orbit Earth at age 77. Glenn volunteered to experiment to discover the effects of space on the elderly.

Our exterior updates are now complete! The concrete exterior has been resealed to protect against moisture. The dome has a fresh coat of white paint and has also been resealed. And the building’s color has been updated from tan to a lunar-inspired gray. Your thoughts?

Captain Jim Lovell has been laid to rest. May his legacy forever inspire us. 🌒
The funeral and committal for astronaut CAPT Jim Lovell was held today at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. The famed naval aviator who commanded the Apollo 13 lunar mission passed away on August 7 at the age of 97.

OCT 14: #OnThisDay in 1947, Chuck Yeager became the first person to break the sound barrier, piloting the Bell X-1 aircraft. Yeager achieved a speed of Mach 1.06 at an altitude of 45,000 feet and later received the 1947 Collier Trophy in recognition of his accomplishment.

Looks like all we need is a bucket lift to put a man on the Moon! 🌒 The museum is undergoing outdoor renovations. Our iconic dome is getting a thorough cleaning and a fresh coat of paint. In addition, the exterior walls are being resealed and painted a new gray color!
