I spoke to @MargaretCan about the difficulties associated with this debate and the number of assumptions which need to be made. Regardless of opinions no one wants a rehash of Brexit.

In the Bel Tel talking about the proposed cuts to social security for people with disabilities. These will be harmful to ppl with disabilities but also the NI economy. Pushing people in to poverty helps no-one. Great to see pushback on this late last night. @aissn_blog @C_Fitz_.

A really informative morning with @CCBSCrossBorder examining the social security implications of cross-border working. Some really concerning case studies. Thank God for the advisors in border areas who are over the technicalities and complexities of this.

Today we are publishing a report, commissioned by @pobal, on social inclusion in Ireland. We examine how potential barriers to social inclusion have changed over time (2016-2022) and if disadvantaged communities are particularly adversely affected.

Our findings around a reduced prevalence of economic barriers, such as unemployment, are welcome. Despite these economic improvements, their resilience in the face of current and future challenges is uncertain. The increase in health inequalities on the other hand is worrying.

However, the study found a rise in poor health, with increases most pronounced in the most deprived areas, exacerbating pre-existing inequalities. Such trends, likely influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, reflect worsening health outcomes for people living in disadvantaged areas.

Between 2016 and 2022, rates of unemployment and low education have declined, with the most significant falls occurring in more deprived areas, narrowing the disadvantage gap between affluent and deprived areas.
