Employment in NI is more heavily weighted towards health, retail, public administration and construction. ROI employment is weighted towards manufacturing, tourism, ICT, Finance and professional, scientific and technical activities. 9/13

Higher numbers with caring responsibilities in NI. In Ireland, 7% of females and 5% of males regularly provided unpaid help. In Northern Ireland, 14% of females were unpaid carers, compared with 11% of males. 8/13

There was a higher proportion of people reporting their general health as either bad or very bad in Northern Ireland at 8%, compared with 2% in Ireland. Older adults (85+ years) had worse health, with 9% reporting bad or very bad health in Ireland, compared with 25% in NI. 7/13

The vast majority of people on the island were born in either the ROI, Northern Ireland or Great Britain. 94% in NI, 85% in ROI. For ethnicity 97% of people in NI are white, compared to 86% of people in ROI. 6/13

The proportion of smaller households is increasing. More than 3/5 of households in NI have 1-2 people, compared to 52% in ROI. 5/13
