But @kimleadbeater many people who've attempted suicide also want to live but just "for the "PAIN" to go away". So what's the difference? 🤔 @kesleeman @ProfMarkTaubert @ProfLAppleby @suicideresearch #SuicidePrevention #assistedsuicide #AssistedDying.
Thank you for making this distinction @kimleadbeater . Assisted dying is about exercising control over the manner and timing of a death that is inevitable and imminent. This is about shortening death, not shortening life.

The very fabric of what it is truly to be human - deep, compassionate, meaningful #attachments - would be torn apart if #AssistedDyingBill passes. How we see each other is forever profoundly, irremediably changed. #Rubicon @soniasodha @kesleeman @jessicamordenmp @ProfLAppleby.

🛑 Lancet Commission on Self-Harm. Some people self-harm to manage profound pain, while for others it is a precursor to suicide. More must be done by government to halt and reverse this trajectory. #suicideprevention.
After almost 5 years in planning, our @TheLancet Commission on self-harm has now been published. Read the new Commission on self-harm here👉

On #WorldMentalHealthDay let's refocus the pressing need to help every child and young person by boosting investment in socio-psychobiological services. @StressWales @WGHealthandCare @ncmh_wales @DHSCgovuk @Keir_Starmer.
Millions of young people live with a mental disorder, yet most suffer in silence—overwhelmed at school, home and beyond. It’s time for the world to step up and increase investment in psychosocial services for every child and young person. #WorldMentalHealthDay #OnMyMind

🔴 Very reflective, cogent piece by @soniasodha on why serious, in-depth analysis of manifold concerns already identified with a putative assisted dying legislation is the absolute minimum. A Royal Commission sounds eminently sensible. Precautionary principle, first do no harm.
Starmer’s enthusiasm for speedy law change on assisted dying - without any prior and independent analysis of potential safeguards - suggests he has not properly understood the risks as well as benefits of reform. It’s worrying. My Observer column.

Need for mental health screening at early stages, and appears emotional wellbeing overlooked in #dementia care. Early psychological support may well help people with dementia. What about socio-economic deprivation impact on suicidality? #WorldSuicidePreventionDay2024.
