Self-harm has increased in 16-74 yr olds. Lifetime SH was reported by 2.4% in 2000, 3.8% in 2007, rising to 6.4% in 2014 and 10.3% in 2023/4. This increase was evident in men and women and across age-groups.

There may be some change in peoples willingness to report or recognition that they self-harmed but it's likely that trends over these surveys since 2000 reflect a real increase in thoughts and behaviours.
