Please don't feel guilty about muting or unfollowing me if my timeline is too much, I don't consider following or not following me to be an endorsement of me personally. I'm pretty mad at the moment and probably will be for awhile

Because jobseekers are held yo a sanctio s regime. The slightest failure = a sanction. This removes the claimant from tbe stats for the duration. It also serves as an enforcer to make people take the worst conditioned jobs ie zero hours
@MFBjournalism @RITB_ It makes no sense. If everyone, including the disabled, has to search for 35 hours a week and there aren’t all that many jobs currently available - over the month isn’t everyone just applying for the same jobs? (A local chippy had 400 applicants for one p/t job recently).

UC claimants have to do 35hrs job searching under threat of sanction. There's already more fit unemployed than vacancies, lab/tories/reform want to add disabled pple to that list
'In 2024, 40% of companies posted listings for “ghost jobs”, nonexistent positions advertised to create the illusion that the company is doing well enough to take on new employees.' Bloody hell.

Enjoying being back at work? The freezing weather? The morning commute? By noon today FTSE 100 CEO's have already earned the average workers yearly salary. Average CEO pay is £4.4m, 113 times the media worker's salary. It's time for change.

Inventing machines that can create life's necessities, so that you can endlessly sell people the things they need without having to pay anybody to produce them is not going to work out as an economic system, but the centuries figuring that out and acting on it will be painful.

[Adam Curtis voice] In 1987, a scientist working at CompuServe created the Graphics Interchange Format. It was designed to store animated visual information in a format that could easily be shared between networked computers. But then, something unexpected happened.

Even the Tower Hamlets anti-LTN lot are simply misguided in how they're going about things rather than making their aesthetic "anti-cycling"

Like it's rare that you see someone who is all "fucking cyclists" this and "rip up the bike lanes" that and then you see the rest of their opinions and think "actually fair play mate, aside from this your theory of how the world should be seems sound"

Cycling is a weird ancillary section of the culture war because it's not really one of the big "issues" and yet pretty consistently the anti-cycling politicians are horrible bastards in many other areas and the pro cycling politicians are decent in other areas.
'No one should have to die walking or biking for a street to be made safe. And no family should have to relive their loss so others might live. Our administration will act to prevent tragedy, not wait for it.' — @NYCMayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani

Every now and then cyclists experience an aggressive 'punishment pass' - threatening driving that appears deliberate. In the past drivers would get away with this. Not now. This Ibiza driver was reported to West Yorkshire Police.

Example: Ofcom's got loads of 4chan kids in their mentions complaining that actually they hate regulation and like AI revenge porn. The US was yelled at to make a law to regulate Visa's conduct, but this was part of the same campaign against the UK's law regulating online conduct

Think there's something almost proto-Cyberpunk about how people seem to be forming into international online tribes, often led by abstract principles or charismatic individuals, and uniting against whatever form their local nation state takes in favour of their collective's goals

i hate when you’re confused about a plot point in a book or movie so you google it and end up on reddit and it’s always like… wait a second these people are even stupider than i am

everything is getting worse because the richest man alive, who was raised by an apartheid emerald baron that married his own stepdaughter, is chasing nazi brand loyalty by giving them a chatbot that undresses children, so that he can keep selling cars that drive into traffic
