Interesting & timely @Humanists_UK & @Moreincommon_ panel discussion at #Lab25 on threats to free expression in Britain. We mustn't allow the necessary protection of people from hatred to become a backdoor for censoring criticism of ideas.

No one should have to make a journey like this alone. Let's hope the House of Lords continues along the historic path towards giving terminally ill people the choice, dignity, and compassion they deserve at the end of their lives. It's time to end to this cruelty.

In Northern Ireland, where humanist marriages are legally recognised (& only since 2018), they've become the 3rd most popular type of marriage. Mind boggling that the UK Government is yet to follow suit for England and Wales!

On my way to beautiful York for a talk with York Humanists this evening. Assisted dying, the religious right in the US, and politics in the UK: just some of the areas I expect to cover. I know many members have already submitted questions online which I look forward to answering!

Full solidarity with @Tanni_GT against this online abuse. In a single day when the bill was in the Commons I got over 80 foul and abusive messages calling me murderer etc with horrible language. Emotions are high but there is no room for this sort of behaviour.

Whoever needs reminding: the Convention on Human Rights is one of the greatest achievements of European civilisation, following one of its greatest tragedies. For us to leave it would not only undermine all our own rights and freedoms, it would be a completely immoral abdication

Over a quarter of adults in Northern Ireland now identify with no religion. BUT all state schools are Christian and hospital chaplaincy services rarely offer pastoral care for the non-religious. There's a clear need for institutions to catch up.

Remembering the inimitable Brigid Brophy who died #OnThisDay, 1995. A brilliant, principled writer who successfully campaigned for authors’ rights, helping to bring about the Public Lending Right in 1979 alongside Maureen Duffy. True humanist trailblazer.
