'A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.'
—Humanists UK patron and novelist Salman Rushdie on freedom of expression
Public train stations should not be urging ‘sinners’ to repent. It is obviously inappropriate and profoundly misjudged to broadcast hadiths or any religious scripture at passengers. We will be writing to the Transport Secretary to outline our concerns.
It's actually happened...
A school in Birmingham has withdrawn its lessons on LGBT acceptance because 400 Muslim parents petitioned against it. This is not the way forward.

In case you missed it: England says bye bye to homeopathy. It's no longer funded anywhere on the NHS in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland. A victory for rational thinking over pseudoscience.
The UK is the only country in the world to impose compulsory Christian worship as standard in its state schools. We think it should be replaced with inclusive assemblies where instead of prayers & hymns, children learn about the arts, the environment, ethics & the like

We are concerned to hear that a teacher has been suspended over a picture of Muhammad in an RE lesson.
We don't know precisely what was depicted in the image in question, but religious blasphemy laws have no place dictating what goes on in the classroom.

Tolerance for all human beings should be a virtue that all schools endeavour to uphold. The UK Government has consistently said that schools will not be able to avoid teaching respect for LGBT people on the grounds of religion and we look to them now to take action.
Our patron Salman Rushdie has always been an inspiration to us. Humane, fearless, resolute, humanist through and through. His writing widened the scope of the English novel & cast dazzling light on the human condition. We are hoping for his swift recovery.
We want to see the end of discriminatory, state-funded religious schools.
Instead, we want inclusive schools that welcome every child (no ifs or buts), where each child can freely decide what they believe

This is a small, belated token of appreciation from the UK Government for a scientific war hero, an inventor of modern computing, whom the UK Government persecuted for being gay.
If you disagree with someone, by all means return your opinion. Write articles, comments, satire. Debate is essential in a free society.
If you dislike someone's art, you can criticise it, you can ignore it, or you can create your own.
Violence, however, is never acceptable.
James Randi was an inspiration: a lodestar representing honesty, healthy scepticism, rational thought, and the very simple idea that knowing what's really true in this world genuinely matters – and can help you lead a better life. He led a great one and will never be forgotten.

If a film offends you, don't watch it. You do not possess the authority to deny others the opportunity to see it, and to make up their own minds. Protecting 'religious feelings' does not trump freedom of expression. England has no blasphemy law🧵

🙌 Great news.
Homeopathy doesn't work and that's a proven fact.
Stating it can be used to cure or manage any condition, except perhaps dehydration, is a lie that can lead to serious harm.
The Advertising Standards Authority has told Homeopathy UK to remove articles from its website that state that homeopathy can help such conditions as depression, diabetes, infertility, psoriasis, and asthma

And as the

Yesterday at our AGM in Liverpool, our members voted unanimously to reaffirm our commitment to women's reproductive and sexual health rights.
We are once again calling on MPs and peers to repeal the 1861 law that criminalises abortions.
We believe in giving credit where credit's due, and the Government recently made a really good pledge to prioritise children's rights and integration over religious demands. Can you show support for this policy with a RT?

No one understood how important the character of Uhura was more than Nichelle Nichols herself. Her performance inspired a generation of women and girls to pursue their dreams as scientists, bringing Star Trek's humanist vision of an egalitarian future that much closer to reality.
The police should *refuse on principle* to entertain or take seriously claims of 'blasphemy' from religious groups.
Their role is to remind those making such claims to *get a life*, and that to retaliate or threaten violence is a serious criminal offences with severe penalties.

It's not intolerance to point out that homeopathy doesn't work and in the context of scarce NHS funds, wasting funding on it denies people who are in pain actual treatments that DO work
Schools should not have a legal 'duty' to carry out collective worship, nor should they be investigated. The Government should instead be taking steps to require inclusive assemblies that are suitable for all pupils regardless of background or belief.
