Why isn't Tukey more well-known? He's the godfather of data science. Coined the terms "bit", "software", and "exploratory data analysis". Made FFTs usable. And much more… https://t.co/K1yT2WtwWX

Every one of the great dystopian novels begins with the premise that the majority of people can no longer read. That dystopia is here. Billions of dollars have been spent to ensure most folks are too distracted ever to pick up a book. A nation that won't read soon forgets how.
NEW: Over 54% of Americans, approximately 130 million people, now read below a 6th grade level according to National Literacy Institute data.

Sorry, OpenAI, but having ChatGPT push Spotify on me when I'm an Apple Music user is an ad. I know it's promoting an app in ChatGPT, but I don't want it, and I can't stop it, and it's intrusive. The only way to turn it off is to not use ChatGPT, or not mention anything about

@nickaturley Since you appear to be confused on the matter, I took the liberty of asking ChatGPT for you. "Yeah, that's an ad." --ChatGPT 5.1-Thinking

Gemini has this weird privacy policy. You either: - only have temporary chats, or - let your chat data be used for training and human review. @OfficialLoganK, @demishassabis, @JeffDean: If this policy changes to match ChatGPT, I bet you will see Gemini DAU & paid users rise.

I do think biotech/health is one of those fields that rarely allows a college dropout to succeed (there are exceptions and if you are a true autodidact then sure) because you actually do just need to consume years of content before you start developing an intuition for biology.
@ATinyGreenCell @sethbannon This all started when they gave a thiel fellowship to a kid who had only completed 1-2 years of undergrad comp bio so he could drop out and re-invent 23&Me. I always find it funny that the griftiest biotech startups have roughly the same idea that every student brainstorms on day

For 40 years the file browser hasn’t changed. Today, we’re launching with $8 million in seed funding to rebuild the file browser into something more intelligent, searchable, and delightful. The world is in the middle of a data explosion. We’re generating and using more files

A handful of pretty big X accounts look like they were suspended today. Not sure what they did/if they were caught up in something by mistake. Anyone notice any others?

I worked with gifted black and brown kids in Washington, D.C. in the mid-90s and I always find these attempts, almost always in the name of racial equity, to be such a slap in the face to those kids who finally got to feel normal for once in their life. They NEEDED to be around
