Despite Need, Care Facilities for Homeless Patients Are Underutilized
Recuperative care facilities set up to give homeless people with health issues places to recover saw plummeting referrals following state Medi-Cal reforms in 2022.

Senior Earl & I are still out here trying to get medically compromised people experiencing
#homelessness
a safe place to go. It’s difficult when there aren’t shelter beds in
Hillcrest San Diego.
RIP Mr B, Earl & I will never forget you Sir. Your Black life mattered to us.
PSA- I hope the hospitals are able to think long & hard before discharging medically compromised people experiencing
#homelessness
back to the streets in Hillcrest San Diego
without a safe place to go in this rain.
We don’t want the EMT’s to have to bring them back again.🚑
Our population of people experiencing
#homelessness
in San Diego is disproportionately Black.
On
#MLKDay2023
the San Diego Homelessness Response Center will be closed.
Please let this sink in.
This is so unbelievably typical night after night in San Diego. People are exited from hospitals in hospital socks with no where to go and cry out for help while security just watches. This is a medical & humanitarian disaster 24/7 365days a year.
Since I was just thrown out of hospital in
Hillcrest San Diego by security w my senior friend who is experiencing
#homelessness
& the victim of an elder abuse & hate crime assault we will try a new hospital now.
Hi
@KUSINews
welcome to
Hillcrest San Diego right next to the hospitals. Maybe you will meet some medically compromised people experiencing
#homelessness
on this street corner or at the bus bench who were discharged in the middle of the night with no where to go.
Here w senior
Mr G who is experiencing
#homelessness
This is
Hillcrest San Diego under the failed leadership of
@MayorToddGloria
&
@SupFletcher
Mr G was taken to a hospital yesterday in an ambulance & discharged.
Mr G does not want to die on a sidewalk like Mr B did 9/22
We at
@Housing4Hmless
want to thank everyone who walked alongside Todd. We brought him in to hotel room many months ago & he was on hospice care. His furry companion Sasha got to stay by his side.
RIP Todd until we meet again my friend
T who is experiencing
#homelessness
in Hillcrest San Diego
& just helped me with two more seniors discharged from the hospital back to the streets & I are sitting in the car & we cry together.
Does anyone see or hear us in San Diego?
RIP Mr B

The tent wasn’t keeping her safe so we got her a hotel room with a door that locks.
She too was dear friends with Mr B
We have a few documented hepatitis cases in
#SanDiego
. One person has already died. Our Emergency Departments already have a hard time properly serving people experiencing

in Hillcrest.
I wonder what our EMT’s have to say about all of this? 🤔
Please join me in providing a hotel room for Earl & Marcus who are victims of a hateful assault while experiencing homelessness in Hillcrest San Diego. Both are service connected but their homeless services providers are unable to provide them with one

I’ve been out here in Hillcrest since about 2am. A bunch of people are cold & need a safe place to go. Can anyone join me out here? Bring a few ADA vans & keys to doors that lock please. Todd & Nathan aren’t responding.

Thank you
@MrArmandking
for responding to my call for help out here in the streets last year.
I look forward to hitting the streets with you again Sunday morning

Since this day last year I have lost a lot of friends because of fentanyl & we have a lot of work to do.
Again, this is so unbelievably typical night after night and day after day in San Diego. People are exited from hospitals with no where to go and cry out for help. Then another 911 call is made.
This is a medical & humanitarian disaster 24/7 365days a year.
Allegations of 'patient dumping'
Her testimony comes as San Diego's City Attorney is pursuing a lawsuit against Scripps Health for allegedly dumping homeless patients on the streets without basic care or a treatment plan.

Thank you Dez for staying out here in the streets looking out for your community & helping us with
@Housing4Hmless
with another family reunification for a senior experiencing
#homelessness
.
I have also witnessed a resurgence “Granny Dumping” in San Diego. "the abandonment of an elderly person in a public place such as a hospital or nursing home, especially by a relative"
@fwussyrose
My dad died homeless with leukemia. He always wore a suit & tie. He owned a grocery store when my step my mom died. They went medically bankrupt & his broke when she died.

#MissingManuela
has been found safe & sound. I would like to thank every homeless San Diegan who passed out fliers & searched for 12 days for her.
Family asks for help in case of missing woman who was treated at San Diego hospital
A woman experiencing homelessness was kidnapped, held against her will & raped. She was discharged to the streets by a San Diego hospital in the middle of the night. I have removed her from this location & will facilitate an out of state family reunification immediately.
Thank you to all who have walked this journey with me.
It’s official. I am relocating out of San Diego & I am looking forward to new adventures on the horizon. 💛🦋
But then someone started yelling
“F the homeless”
at us.
One of my seniors experiencing
#homelessness
got punched & kicked in the head. I got mad. That’s not nice to do to us when we are grieving the loss of Mr B, my street Dad
He’s at the hospital now
In the last year more people who I personally knew died on the streets of San Diego than I moved into housing.
The secondary trauma of this dire situation has taken a toll.
Taking some time off to heal from the trauma. Thank you to those who have reached out. 🦋

Busy morning in Hillcrest San Diego as more people experiencing

are being discharged to the streets with
no where to go.
Mr E can not even walk to get his prescriptions filled.
This is our reality.
This is very unfortunate. I am simply trying to advocate for fair, equal & just treatment for people experiencing
#homelessness
. I feel everyone should be treated with the same dignity, care & respect I was when I was battling cancer as housed person who lived in La Jolla.

in San Diego are not safe. Not only are they discharged from hospitals back to the streets in

Last night a 71 yr old senior was discharged from Scripps Mercy Hospital to the streets. After spending some time getting to know the senior we found they have out of state family who can take care of them. Now they are about to board a bus to go live with family

I will sit at this bus stop and hold space for Mr B who died exactly 3 months ago at this bus bench on the sidewalk after a hospital discharge to the streets.
RIP Mr B, my street Dad.
Then someone started calling us the “n” word as we were trying to honor the life of Mr B, my street Dad who died after a hospital discharge to the streets in
Hillcrest San Diego on
9/22/2022
I tried to explain to the
#men
who yelled “F the homeless” and said very vulgar things to my face about Mr B that he was trying to get help but that the hospitals kept discharging him back to the streets in the middle of the night.
Proud mom post.
My son has accepted the offer to get his PHD in Engineering at UC Santa Barbara. 💙💛

Now here with Mr E who was just discharged back to the streets in Hillcrest San Diego.
He can not even walk to get his prescriptions filled so he will declined from a homeless shelter even if they happen to have a button bunk available today.
This is our reality on 1/21/2023

Please ask the hospitals why they are not securing a safe discharge plan then ask
@MayorToddGloria
&
@SupFletcher
why they won’t provide a safe place for the hospital to discharge people to? Then folks wander down to Balboa Park in search of a bathroom in the middle of the night
I tried to explain that even a nurse came forward & that it wasn’t Mr B’s fault. They started swinging punches at us & now my glasses are broken & a senior is in the hospital.
