Cruise season is officially here! Each arrival to our city brings new visitors and a big economic boost for our waterfront and our local businesses and landmarks. Thank you to the Port of San Diego for being a great partner in helping our city’s tourism sector grow.

On this day 47 years ago, PSA Flight 182 crashed in North Park, claiming 135 lives and forever shaping our community. Last year, I was honored to fulfill a promise to the victims’ families by installing a permanent memorial plaque at Dwight and Nile, site of the tragic accident.

I was excited to attend the Open House at the newly renovated Electrical Training Institute of San Diego. This state-of-the-art facility is training the next generation of electrical workers and powering opportunity across our region. Thank you to NECA and IBEW 569!

I proud to stand with Councilmember Raul Campillo, Supervisor Paloma Aguirre, and Deacon Jim Vargas as we opened Father Joe’s Villages’ new Detox Center — adding 44 detox treatment and recovery beds for San Diegans in need.

I was honored to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation. Thank you to the Foundation’s board and members for two decades of dedication and generosity, ensuring our fire department personnel has the resources needed to keep San Diegans safe.

September is Hunger Awareness Month, and too many San Diegans are going without meals. Thank you to the San Diego Food Bank for their tireless advocacy to address this regional challenge.

From arts and culture to business and public service, Hispanic San Diegans have played an integral role in the development of our city. Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate their impact and our shared roots as a binational community.

Today, we remember the lives lost on 9/11 and pay tribute to the brave first responders who gave everything to save others. May we stand together in unity, honoring our nation’s resilience and strength in the face of tragedy. #NeverForget
