Piper Sandler economists: Trump believes he ought to control monetary policy, and he isn’t going through all this trouble for 50bps of rate cuts he was going to get anyway. He wants a lot more.

Didn’t take long to go from “Trump has a free-speech right to weigh in” on monetary policy to “actually he knows more about monetary policy and it should be an executive function.”.

We tried a more politically-directed Federal Reserve in the 1970s. The result was the worst stagflation in US post-war history.

Yeah she's not litigating the substance yet. She's challenging the lack of due process. The other stuff might come later.

Lisa Cook's lawsuit doesn't appear to try to address the allegations made against her. The closest the suit comes is this line, "Governor Cook 'potentially' erred in filling out a mortgage form prior to her Senate confirmation—does not amount to 'cause' within the meaning of the.

Yes. She is seeking an order that would bar any other entity, besides the White House, from preventing her from doing her job. So it's the normal convention for the agency to be sued, along with the agency head.

Fed governor Lisa Cook sues Trump to block effort to remove her from central bank, saying she is entitled to due process and the allegations of mortgage fraud cited by the White House fall short of the legal standard for her removal. The president's view: being credibly accused.

President Trump is right about the threshold of “for cause” removal of Fed governors. Lisa Cook is going to lose this case—and it is not even close. The test is simple: the president must explain to the Senate why he is removing a Fed governor. That’s it.

Pew Research just released their latest survey on how Americans view various parts of the government, including the Federal Reserve. Americans have a net-positive view of the Fed -- 49% favorable, 28% unfavorable, with 23% not sure. Those numbers put the Fed in about the middle.
