Human ecologist & Quaker, I share on justice, environment, nonviolence & spirituality. Books include Soil and Soul, Poacher's Pilgrimage & Riders on the Storm.
Scotland - Hebrides & Govan
Joined July 2015
My best-known book is Soil and Soul (2001) on land, community & activism. Poacher’s Pilgrimage (2016) is perhaps my most beautiful book, a spiritual ecology of the imagination. And Riders on the Storm (2020) is on the science & symptoms of a human crisis, seeking what gives life.

These are the UN’s SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) that Trump’s USA has denounced. Happily, in Scotland from where his mother emigrated, the SDGs are part of the @scotgov National Performance Framework.
U.S withdraws form UNESCO again. Spokesperson denounced UNESCO’s commitment to the UN’s SDGs, which include calls to reduce poverty, increase gender equity and fight climate change as evidence of “a globalist, ideological agenda”. @UofGlasgow.

I always suspected that the real driver of the corporate buy-up of Scotland to “offset” carbon was land speculation: see p.15 But give the eco veneers, I had not suspected the possibility that the carbon might be a foil perhaps to get land for wind farms.
When Oxygen Conservation bought Glen Lednock with a massive loan from Triodos bank they failed to explain they would need to build a wimdfarm to pay it back. Felicity Martin explains why the proposed planning application is so wrong

BBC: “No arrests were made in relation to the march in Edinburgh.”. Well done @PoliceScotland. No arrests, and NO to UK laws to silence Scottish freedom of speech against what would appear to constitute genocide in international law.

As an actively retired British army general (2-star), Charlie Herbert’s principled stand against what appears to pass the tests for “genocide” in international law is especially significant.
Why march tomorrow in London? . There are lots of reasons. For me, it’s to protest the UK governments complicity in a murderous campaign lacking distinction, proportionality and morality. 👇 And because I refuse to be silenced. 12pm, Embankment Tube Station, London.

Well gents?. “Where are the men to deal with their transgressive bro? These women know they will be ineffective at best, next to be falsely accused & persecuted at worst, and no other woman has the power to protect her while all the men are whistling like there’s nothing to see!”.
Which brings me to the second observation: all the people named so far that had to deal with an angry and vindictive male crossdresser are also female. Where are the men to deal with their transgressive bro? Some GC campaigners love to dump on women, claiming it is mostly women.

1/2 The grandson of J. Robert Oppenheimer reflects on the Bomb: “On the anniversary of the Trinity test it [the use of the Hindu scriptures] was something more complex: an acknowledgment that humanity had crossed a threshold. A moment too immense to be captured by science alone.”.
We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the prince that he should do his duty. And to impress him, he takes on his.

Insights into the present state of pilgrim paths from Ancient Wisdom.
@scarycath It used to be only the council that could repair roads. You had to pay them to do it. Thatcher decided that was a block to cable TV and so on. Now any cowboy can dig up a brand new road and patch it up with any old shite.
