For the cover of Inquirer, this opening paragraph from Greg Sheridan in The Weekend OZ is howling at the moon stuff. He’s a parody of a serious journalist. Harris is a gun owning former cop endorsed by Dick Cheney.

As a pilot and doctor, who flies and works all over Australia, I can say that @BOM_au is not 'behind the eight ball' and that this vicious attack, based on one person's local anecdote, is entirely unjustified. The BoM provides an OUTSTANDING service. https://t.co/wPxTRVhpSn
Every major storm this summer in our suburb in Canberra has preceded the Bureau text warning by at least 5 minutes. @MurrayWatt the whole country knows the BoM is behind the eight ball.

Farcical front page in the Herald Sun listing 80 councils choosing not to do a citizenship ceremony on January 26. We do them every month so why does one have to be on this controversial date?

Too often these days ABC doesn’t call things out that should be called out because it fears the wrath of right wing critics, led by News Ltd which is committed to its destruction.

And ~50,000 or so Australian's lived bc the country took a path to live without C0VID. Wasn't easy, border closures & some major lockdowns (esp. Melb & Syd), but most people lived virus- & LD-free for all of 2020-21.

One way to use this graph is to ask "how many deaths would Oz have had in 2020-21 if they had the same death rate as another country?" To do this, multiply 1,744 x rate for country of comparison. Eg, if Oz was the UK, it would have had 1,744 x 33 = 57,552 XS deaths in that time.
While things are not great atm, in 2020-21, the collective actions of Dan Andrews & his team, along with other key Fed & State leaders, saved 10's of thousands of lives & averted many x more severe acute & chronic illnesses. These savings were sustained (a story for another day).
