Done! It worked- a classic technique. ✨ Using geometry as a light volume. (except this is [nearly?] all procedural) I'll post a breakdown + nodes later.
I have an idea. 💡 The default cylinder can be transformed by the GPU to render as an expanding light beam out of the portal. I can tessellate the geometry for smoothing.

This procedural fire is lit 🔥 - no textures! w/ @magic_chromatic, using noise + self gradient dilation to produce animated, multi-octave caustics. All dynamic and parameterized for 'simulation' control. #unity3d #gamedev #realtimevfx
Procedural Caustic Noise Shader/Math: 🫧 (more techniques I've actually used~) Smooth Voronoi can be used to generate convincing procedural caustics. Noise gradients can dilate the sample position to resemble anything from foam, to webs, etc. #unity3d #gamedev #realtimevfx

Updated my post-processing scan effect for #Unity3D. A visualized SDF using the depth buffer. You can control the origin as a transform, and adjust several properties. Will probably throw this on GitHub at some point so keep a look out. 👀 #MadeWithUnity #GameDev #RealtimeVFX
