Started a blog recently; there might be the odd thing of interest from time to time. As the title says it's "A random collection of thoughts about books, fishing and statistics". The odd posting about guitars might crop up too. https://t.co/5hwVVywv2y

"<Sum scores> may have been intuitive at the start of psychometrics more than a century ago but ... it proved a highly fortunate hunch that has been substantiated through a century of psychometric theory formation." 2/3

An excellent, readable & important psychometrics paper (not a combination of words that I have often used or seen elsewhere). Sijtsma, K., Ellis, J. L., & Borsboom, D. (2024). https://t.co/AryDaqcwhl @BorsboomDenny Highly quotable too 1/2

@MattNachtrab I know you have conflicts of interest here, but your “the investigators were compensated for their work” does not win against “they kept finding doctored images”. Here's example images from MTL, Zlokovic, and Lesné papers. Any normal person would conclude there was fraud. (1/2)

New paper with @ad_pickering, @Roger_Beaty, and Joydeep Bhattacharya! Here we argue that neurocognitive creativity research (NCR) would benefit greatly from a new generation of dynamic computational models. https://t.co/ZSuuGmQqVY

Our new theory paper, led by @JamesLloydCox, argues computational modeling would greatly benefit creativity research by making creativity theories more rigorous & testable. @APADivision10 @ad_pickering https://t.co/ZYD6p3fZlR

In 2010, when the Tories came to power, our NHS was ranked the fairest, most efficient and cost-effective health system in the world. Our NHS has not failed. It has been FAILED by the Tory government. @mrjamesob

Mea culpa. My last blog post contained a toy model to illustrate Bayesian inference that was a bit pants. It has bugged me so much I’ve tried to fix it while on holiday in Japan. The new toy model is much better. You can read about the update here:

My latest blog post illustrating simple Bayesian inference being used to predict fishing success. https://t.co/wdLIltLYki H/t @fdabl for his excellent blog on regularisation which really helped me understand this topic
