Most brain-imaging studies make 3 questionable assumptions: mental events are localizable, map uniquely to dedicated #brain circuitry, & are independent of larger context. These 19th-century views need an update. New #OpenAccess paper in @TrendsCognSci. 1/

As a person living with generalized anxiety disorder, questions such as these make me squirm. University admissions committees are not legally allowed to discriminate on the basis of disability, but this sure seems likely an easy way to dance around that.

Recently, a date said they were an INTJ (i.e., Myers Briggs). I told her, β€œI'm a PhD in psychology. I refuse to entertain some unscientific typology of personality with dubious scientific backing.” I took pride in expressing my needs. As a Pisces, I really struggle with that.

There's a lot of debate about whether a p-factor exists and, if so, what it represents. Just accepted at Psych Med, @JenCheavens, Emil Coccaro, & I tested the unidimensionality of a p-factor and its associations with 5 leading theories of p. https://t.co/5VKZK6Pzfm
