It’s hard to believe the leading child actor in #Adolescence had no experience before this series. He does an excellent job. The story is predictable for those familiar with online subcultures, but it’s a credit to Jack Thorne that he doesn't throw in any forced plot twists.

One thing that didn't happen in TikTok's court case was the disclosure of the classified evidence that the U.S. government has against the app, the evidence that's likely to be more than hypothetical. Members of Congress have seen it, but the judges decided to discard it.

My first visit to Israel was in 2018. Everyone I met treated me hospitably without asking about my nationality or my politics. The differences between our governments obviously aren’t going to be solved soon. I just hope that doesn’t prevent us from treating each other decently.
🇮🇪 Ireland has become like a toilet that shits into itself It’s obsessive, ill-informed, ignorant, supercilious animosity towards the worlds only Jewish country - and only the Jewish country - singularly above any other country on earth - of which there are many mired in

Documents issued with the red stamp of a government department will have the department's name superimposed over the stamp with black text. The above document lacks this detail, making it a likely fake.

An alleged document from the State Council and the Central Military Commission purports to order overseas dependants of military personnel to return home by February in response to "the complex international situation." The presentation is almost right except for one giveaway.

I normally tweet about other things, but this deserves a response. The claim that the violence in Amsterdam was triggered by a flag and a provocative chant isn't supported by social media evidence. A confrontation with Maccabi Tel Aviv fans was planned in advance. #ajamac
⚡️IMPORTANT: This is what Maccabi Tel Aviv Hooligans did in the Netherlands that triggered all the violence against them after the authorities did nothing, don’t let anyone twist it. Israelis are not the victim. They took down Palestine’s flag and then it all started. An

Another major U.S. university has ended its partnership in China, and if Congress has its way, exchanges in almost any field of study are only going to get harder. My story for @thewirechina with comments from @XiaBamboohermit @BillKirbyHBS @jdelisle21

As another U.S. university ends its partnership in China, the future of higher education exchanges between the two countries looks bleak.

Ming Pao reports that Qin Gang is not working at World Affairs Press — it’s someone else with the same name as the former foreign minister. WaPo earlier quoted former U.S. officials that this is where Qin Gang was sent after his political career imploded.

The @StateDept denied that @CGHuangPingNY was expelled from the U.S., saying he had merely completed his posting as scheduled in August. @GovKathyHochul said today she asked for Huang’s expulsion following the indictment of a former staffer accused of acting as a Chinese agent.

China was barely mentioned at either party's convention, so the question is: will China policy in the U.S. be upended when the next president takes office, or will there be continuity? The Wire China asks the experts for their perspective.

We asked more than a dozen experts and policy makers: Where should the next U.S. president take the China relationship?

The Biosecure Act could upend the global pharmaceutical supply chain. This week, Eliot Chen reports on WuXi AppTec.

Tragically, a CityU professor with a history of depression died by apparent suicide over the weekend. A WeChat Moments screenshot of a suicide note, which links the death to political changes in HK since 2019, seems to be false and first appeared on the Epoch Times/NDTV coverage

Shen Yun has treated many of its performers as an expendable commodity, a @nytimes investigation has found. It has routinely discouraged them from seeking medical care when their bodies have broken down, and commanded their obedience to grueling schedules
nytimes.com
As the popular dance show grew into an international juggernaut, some of the group’s young performers paid a steep price.

So far, the Netherlands and its most important company, ASML, has cooperated in the U.S. tech war against China, but more U.S. demands to limit ASML's freedom to sell in China are likely to be met with hesitation in the Hague. My story for @thewirechina
thewirechina.com
Despite export restrictions on the Dutch company’s most advanced chip machines, China has become ASML’s biggest customer.

Of the 136 Chinese companies Nvidia listed as partners in July, at least 24 have had procurement contracts with the Chinese military or are partly owned by defense contractors or organizations on the entity list, according to records from @WirescreenAI

The U.S. is trying to stop China from getting Nvidia microchips to advance its military. The private sector is fighting back.

This is true, but some activists are now taking back their congratulations for Vivian Kong after her political stance was discovered. Kong, who won gold in fencing, wrote a masters' thesis in Beijing in 2021 about the harm caused by the 2014 protests. https://t.co/VwAPYBgwTq
Remarkable how many people the Hong Kong government accuses of hating the city and wanting bring about its downfall are cheering on the gold medal winner tonight. Many doing so far from home in exile and even some with bounties on their heads.

A new Taiwanese TV series dramatizes what a Chinese invasion may look like. The 17-minute trailer is worth watching. The series is partly funded by Robert Tsao, the semiconductor magnate who began speaking out against China after the events in HK in 2019.
