No longer here much because of the promotion of disinformation and unchecked rise of general bad faith garbage.

Had a look back in at this place, confirm it’s still a raging dumpster fire. If anyone I know wants codes for the other place where the sky has a bluish tint, let me know.

Not spending much time on this site anymore- I have some codes for the other place where the atmosphere has a distinctive shade due to Rayleigh scattering, let me know in a DM if you want one.

Someone's excellent and real PAST scientific contributions are not an indication that their current pseudoscientific forays have any resemblance to good, robust science. "Going off the deep end and into crackpot territory" is unfortunately how many great scientific careers end.

Starting in about an hour, should be excellent!

This thread should be required reading for anyone who thinks “it’s aliens”. Inescapably, inexorably, reminds me of the amazing Stanislaw Lem story “On Patrol”.
Lots of people are telling me that the radar observations make the aviator TicTac observations more likely an advanced vehicle, but tbh the radar observations are my biggest cause for doubt. (I used to be a radar/avionics engineer for NASA for many years chasing such anomalies.)

Massive climate physics explainer thread, with references!
Here's a thread in pictures about the Atlantic overturning circulation #AMOC which is making headlines this week. I've studied this topic since 1991 and will show key data and models & some video. Let's go: observed temperature trend since 1901 from https://t.co/jGHxmrjzLG 🧵1/x

So of all these different non-Twitter options cropping up, which one is going to reach critical mass to make the switch worthwhile first? I don’t want to download and have to check 17 different apps all the time.

Could not have said it better myself: “Debating the wilfully ignorant is a fool’s errand”. If you’re an antivaxxer, climate change denier, or any other kind of head-in-the-sand, reality-challenged dead ender, no one owes you a debate.
Thread: I work in an arcane field where the job requires specific technical knowledge, built on a ladder of understanding and breakthroughs going back over 100 years. It's not immunology but it's not nothing.

IT has reported your computer is too old to maintain. Unfortunately, the college doesn’t have funds for a replacement. We do, however, have yellow legal pads and pens in the supply closet. And, the campus bookstore gives faculty a 10% discount on computer purchases!

Today's solar eclipse as viewed from Hobart will start at 1:25 pm, last about 82 minutes, and will see a maximum of 13% of the Sun's disc eclipsed at ~2:06 pm. Interesting to see how many people notice!
The Solar eclipse is not far away now. While the best views are in Western Australia, a partial eclipse will be visible across Australia. Never look directly at the Sun, including during an eclipse - to view the eclipse safely see our fact sheet. https://t.co/Q31zz0DIVZ

Excellent thread about a cool paper. Totally stealing the line about data being like the heart!
Given that no one has time to read papers, but will gladly scroll a Twitter thread, I thought I’d walk through my paper on arxiv today. The paper is more “fun” than “profound”, but I think there are some small useful lessons in it.
