@BringFrontsBack There is a perverse incentive in car insurance policies. They prioritize cars sitting on driveways, only a few metres away from the pre-existing position on the road (!) Yet, they fail to consider the flood risk at the local level will increase! @Susannahfisher

Two houses on the same street, both with drives. Yet just one of them reduces flood risk, retards heatwaves, and lights up the neighbourhood with welcoming greenery. We’ve lost millions of front gardens to overpaving in recent decades. We need to reverse that trend urgently.

"...The council should oversee and encourage imaginative conversion of these buildings in city centres, where there are already community resources." Seems like a no brainer to address shortages of housing, rather than paving over precious green belt! @MayorofLondon #nature

Sensible comments here about plans to build on green belt: "Most housing being built now on the green belt is not affordable and very little is social housing.... As in many cities, there are lots of empty shops and offices.." @fionaharvey @guardian https://t.co/B90JxL2uyq

Protecting children from pesticides such as glyphosate should really be the minimum standard that we set to protect young children, who often put their hands in their mouth when they play outside. @MumsnetTowers @HPUKParents @parents4futureG @PCRM

Did you know harmful pesticides are being sprayed on children's playgrounds in the UK? Please sign and share this petition I set up in a person capacity, calling for this to be banned: https://t.co/qh0Sfd00k2 @MayorofLondon @TonyJuniper @natalieben @CarolineLucas

We urge the Government to ban the use of pesticides in children’s playgrounds and schools in England, to protect children from what could be harmful chemicals.

There is no escape on this #PoisonedPlanet. "Pesticides are ubiquitous, not only in agricultural areas but also in environments far from crop fields". And we're just starting to grasp implications for #PublicHealth https://t.co/aUYGymLZcQ

New stat from @FAO has huge implications for global food security. Only 60% of global #fish stocks are within biologically sustainable levels - a huge drop from 90 percent in 1974. https://t.co/a7VsQgCwMG @MaximoTorero @FAOclimate

Paving over front gardens for driveways has led to a huge loss of front gardens. It may reduce car insurance premiums slight - but increases flood risk. Could the incentive be changed? #floodrisk @NatParkCityFdn @MayorofLondon @theCCCuk @energyukceo https://t.co/FG0NfpEsXT

Worrying news here. Downing Street has vetoed release of an assessment that says the loss of the Amazon ecosystem could drive up food inflation as well as lead to mass migration. #natureloss #collapse #inflation #foodsecurity https://t.co/eaaN4z6ex9

Thanks @ASteiner and @fionaharvey for a very clear analysis and starting a much needed discussion. This problem can only be tackled by a strong and broad political movement putting also development and climate on the agenda as priorities. @_HWright

With ⁦@fionaharvey⁩ of The Guardian I explored the implications for national security of a singular focus on investing in a ā€˜defense and deterrence’ track while defunding international cooperation through a ā€˜development and resilience’ track.

In 2025, the World Food Programme (WFP) faces a severe funding shortfall, with projected resources dropping by 34%. Governments like the UK recently cut aid budgets. These aid cuts had real impacts on #hunger #starvation #lives. But who decided? https://t.co/V9sZxnq36i

That is not to say the impacts of climate change at 3C are not extremely serious/catastrophic in many places, and could well trigger "tipping points" in the climate system - but we should remind ourselves how far the world has come once in a while - and that the #EnergyTransition

Important & pivotal point made by Susannah Fisher early on in her new book: "...this story is not all doom and gloom. If I had been writing this book a few years ago I might have talked more about the highest-emission scenarios and painted a picture of an apocalyptic desert
