8/.Throughout development, ChainSafe engaged with the community to test and improve the Snap. Shielded transactions were verified. UX improved. Bugs fixed. Finally, the Snap passed a full security audit by Hacken and was demoed live at #ZconVI. 💥.

7/.Then came the Snap. Using WebZjs under the hood, the team built a MetaMask Snap that supports full Sapling key management and shielded send/receive. No installs. No nodes. Just #MetaMask. Private #ZEC, running in your browser.

6/.To make this real, the team built WebZjs — a browser-native Zcash SDK. It handles:.🔹 zk-SNARK generation.🔹 Sapling & Orchard support.🔹 Wallet sync via lightwalletd.🔹 Key & note management. All client-side. No compromise on privacy.

5/.@ChainSafeth, the grantee, proved the concept by sending a shielded ZEC transaction directly in-browser. No custom software. No trusted gateway. Just zk-SNARKs, WASM, and #JavaScript - all in a tab. It was a major milestone!.

4/.That led to two grants:. • One to build a browser-native Zcash library, named #WebZjs. • One to create a MetaMask Snap on top of it, co-funded with @MetaMask Grants DAO - $150K! 👏🏻🙏. ZCG supported both. The goal: bring shielded $ZEC to where users already are - the browser.

3/.Could shielded ZEC even run in a browser? 🤔. In 2024, ZCG funded a feasibility study to answer that. The team tested memory limits, circuit size, and proving time. Result: ✅ . It was possible! With smart optimizations and no need for a full node.

2/.Why is this big?. #Zcash’s privacy tech has historically been too heavy for web wallets. Shielded ZEC uses complex ZKP-circuits, large proving keys, and lots of memory – not exactly browser-friendly. Until now, there was no easy way to use Zcash in a simple browser extension.
