I haven't seen the same thing happen with sum check protocols, despite the intimate relationship between the two. Why is the IPA tripping so many people up?.

It's some combination of having a gnarly mixture (in practice) of public and private objects of different forms being manipulated in a mixture of ways (adversarial or not), recursively, with varying and subtle requirements for linear independence of terms. The perfect storm.

The inner product argument is like the "Freshman's Dream" of cryptographic protocols, not just because of its structure or the identities used, but because of how the algebraic objects are applied. I've seen it lead newer cryptographers to false results on numerous occasions.

Storm's case has huge implications for privacy and cryptography. But most importantly, it's about an innocent person's freedom.

Zcash's privacy model treats your counterparty as the adversary; they know at least as much as any observer. Shielded transactions leak *nothing* to your counterparty, and therefore your privacy is unaffected by which address type they provide.
