You are what you eat! We leveraged chemical proteomics to discover that macrophages redeploy intact surface proteins made by their cancer cell meals during phagocytosis. These proteins are functional, and redeployment may explain the etiology of the TAM.

So excited to share this story with the world! A mimic of the mammalian ‘don’t eat me’ signal CD47 encoded by a pathogen!.

How thrilling to see this online after 8 years in the works!!!. We showed that #Lyme bacteria .mimic our own“don’t eat me” signal with their P66 protein to hide in plain sight!!! This tricks our SIRPa protein to trigger the breaks on immune clearance!.

Curious how the Lyme pathogen changes as it moves through ticks during bloodmeal transmission? Us too - and it took a lot of blood sweat and tears (and ticks) for @annesapiro to crack this one. Let us know if you need help navigating our data!
