My maternal Great Grandfather and my paternal Great Grandfather were competing butcher / fish monger owners in Munkacz (Hungary) pre-WW2.
They hated each other I’m told.
Their grandkids met and married in NYC.

There’s no modern 21st century box for Jews in western society. We don’t fit into the neatly defined categories.
It’s clear that the core of the conversation over Whoopi Goldberg’s comments is whether or not Jews are white, which is, as any Ashkenazi Jewish person knows, a constant debate. Here’s the thing: Hitler and the Nazis didn’t see us as white. And 6 million of us died because of it.
