A sad day for all the right-wing wellness weirdos that can only eat grass-fed beef and dairy on their carnivore diets. It's only grain-fed American beef for you now! You'd better edit your grifter-diet books.

Highlight for October is having Claire's Diabetologia paper finally published. It's been a journey, but this and other forthcoming papers are a testament to her leadership of this project. This is a super interesting genetic variant.

Heartening to see all these people fighting to make their opinions and their rights visible. No reason they should have to do it. Luxon is unfazed gambling with Māori futures. Dont forgot David Cameron did something similar with Brexit. That went great didn't it?

RFK Jr is the most psychotic choice to lead Dept HHS in modern history. It can take decades for health policies to begin to impact disease burdens and improve lives. Takes just one moron to undo it. There will be a death count.

After all these years, still can't help holding out hope for grant applications. Really amplifies the disappointment on results day. I need to learn to lower my expectations. Hard to do without impacting self-esteem, but a necessary life skill for a scientist

These are not new ideas, but cherry-picked examples, those that have proven successful overseas. We need a much better framework to get the most out of limited resources. Funding is top of the list. We can't take more cuts, already been cut for decades.

Thanks to @GilesYeo, @ONeill_Lab, @DPhaz, and Fiona Gribble, for your time over the last couple of days. Got lots of ideas to take back to NZ and hopefully some collaborations in the future. It's been a blast!

This may have been the loneliest poster session I've ever been to. Not sure why so many no-shows.

Oops, back in another Irish bar. I just think irish bars are the best place to be when drinking alone in a strange city.

First full day and poster presentation is done but jetlag still with me. Great reminder of how our physiology is impacted by circadian rhythms. The sun is shining here in Stockholm, hopefully, I can stay awake longer this evening and try to reset my daily hormonal cycles.

17h flight down, 7h flight to go. Looking forward to #ECE2024 in Stockholm. Even remembered to schedule a little jetlag recovery time for a change.

Things are hotting up for anti obesity drugs and the complexity of the body's machinery for regulating energy intake use and storage programmed to maximize survival means we need more complex approaches to making drugs.

Nature open access publication fee 11k USD. That's 18.5kNZD. To put that into context; the publication grants I've seen are 1-2kNZD. Even prestigious research grants in NZ have a suggested limit of 25k for annual research budget.
