Who does Jerod think is building the homes that he wants more of and at more reasonable prices? #HousingCrisis
@berkie1 Supply and demand. Cut red tape and build more housing. Enforce our border laws strictly and ramp up deportations. Plus end H1B abuse.

Perhaps surprisingly, am fine with "loose" rent stabilization, so long as it includes: 1. Annual rent increases in the range of CPI + 1-2% 2. The ability to buy out a tenancy at a fair, formulaically determined price, so that the building can be (re-)renovated every ~30 yrs 3.

@atrupar Kimmel was taken off the air for nothing near as egregious as this. And lest we forget, Kilmeade is still on the air after opining that mentally ill homeless people should be forcibly euthanized. Just how low is the standard these days?

This CR is a major mistake. Here are my thoughts on this important night. Donald Trump and his Republican enablers caused the shutdown. And even more egregiously, Trump has gone out of his way to make it worse, most recently by illegally trying to use hungry kids as leverage to

What a wild few days it’s been around chachos. I can’t wrap my head around just how fucking awesome this community is. To see people coming in and donating food. People literally handing money to peeps who need gas money. Stock piles of stuff coming in.

Policy evaluation 101: Set the baseline. Trump took office Jan 20, so compare outcomes to Jan 19. "Less bad than last week" is not "good." Tariffs still higher, soybean sales lower, rare earth access tighter than on Jan 19.

Every legitimate source for apartment data shows: Where there's a lot of new apartment supply, rents are falling. Where there's little new apartment supply, rents are rising. It's all about supply and demand. Source: Avison Young Q3 report using CoStar data

More than half of U.S. farms are losing money, threatening small towns and rural economies. Farm bankruptcies in the 12 months ending in June were up 56% from the previous year.

Farmers are struggling this fall despite a bountiful harvest. Production costs are high, crop prices are low and the trade war has closed off one of their biggest markets.

DOGE cuts taking months to appear in employment data is a dynamic I had not considered.
@Timodc Policy-driven recession. Most laid off government employees lose their severance on 9/30. BLS notes they are not yet counted among the unemployed. In October, if they don't find new jobs, look for weekly unemployment claims to jump and the jobs data to be worse than September's.

John Deere is laying off 238 workers at three factories in Iowa. The company said Tariffs and lower commodity prices are to blame. “Tariff costs in the quarter were approximately $200 million, which brings us to roughly $300 million in tariff expense year to date,” said director

Trump's trade war probably qualifies as the greatest madness in economic policy in a developed country after WWII: 1. All decisions are made by one single person (Trump). 2. No principles are applied. 3. No economic rationale or theory. 4. All is based on Trump's emotions. /1
